There is no question Trump is about retribution; he has admitted as much. And I would definitely not deny that this is a repulsive racial gesture by Trump- a fuck you of sorts to certain groups. This is one of many problems with the current policy

Nonetheless, I'm not overwhelmed by the relative scale of the crime. There are millions of immigrants here from all kinds of places, and I'm not panicking over 54 being here for questionable or even dubious reasons. I'm a whole lot MORE worried about the deportation system, because there is real harm in that situation.

I will preface this by acknowledging that I'm particularly critical of right-wing influencers, especially those whose actions have caused significant harm— figures like Alex Jones, whose conduct I find undeniably reprehensible. But these aggressively ugly and nasty voices on the left that channel pure hostility to anyone who disagrees with them are also toxic. I certainly think there are a lot of people with repugnant beliefs in MAGA, but to generalize that and project hostility to ALL Reps, all people that might have voted for Trump, or anyone who disagrees with you on the issues is a mistake. Declaring spiteful, hateful war on the other side doesn't bring us closer to peace and non-division.
