Well.. Im sure they will be up to par soon. Pakistan sold the parts of the top secret helicopter to China, when it wrecked during the Osama raid.

What would you call them? 4.5 Gen and what do you put them on par with? I personally classify the J-20 as crappy 5th Gen fighters.

Just imagine what their wartime manufacturing capacity would be.

Not only do they have so many factories, but they could literally chain their workers to the lines.

good to hear I am out of range of the Chinese, but I don't see them attacking us anytime soon, if ever.

I do wonder how that would play out in a true all out (non-nuke) war with the U.S. Clearly the U.S. would dominate the air war and fast. After that we'd head straight to disrupt their manufacturing capacity. But China is big and they can recover quick, and some we will just miss.

So, good point. But I think our undisturbed manufacturing capacity would exceed their non-blown up one. I would be more worried about the sheer manpower China could trow into the ranks with basic equipment and probably above average training. But that would only factor into a land invasion by the U.S., which is very unlikely in our lifetime.

No reason to assume that just because China's prototype 5th generation aircraft resembles America's F-22 , it is comparable because no way they can match Western avionics and material science.

The have a huge army, but its hard to project a huge force. They would need supplies for all those soldiers, if their supply lines were destroyed they would be screwed.

Yeah it would be a race to destroy the factories, or even just the power plants and bridges.

The three gorges dam would be on the hit list for sure. Don't know what the air defences might look like though.

Couldn't China move their manufacturing underground?

  16. I'm not sure China can recover that quickly, things would get pretty restive once the power is out and the food line is cut to a coast stacked with 1 billion hungry mouths.

China can't fuck with us right now and they know it, but in 20 years or so they will be caught up.

Highly doubt it they can catch up in 20 years because the US will have advanced even more. It took 20 years to design and field the F-22.

China does not have the technical knowhow and skills needed to match the US in designing and manufacturing the best weapon systems available. This is why they resort to stealing our technology secrets. They are far behind Japan when it comes to designing and manufacturing high quality industrial equipment, so trying to compete with the US in cutting edge tech even in 20 years time is very doubtfull.
