Hollywood picks a leading actor/actress that they know has box office standing but at the same time I get what the anger is about since we are talking about ancient China. If a Chinese or Black guy was cast as lead role in a movie about a warrior or king in Medieval Britain or Germany, people on the right would be bitching about it and calling it Affirmative Action and Political Correctness etc..

Yeah Hollywood used to whitewash roles and to some extent still does, but Hollywood is much better now in featuring diverse ethnic groups.

I wonder how diverse Chinese cinema is, whether they discriminate against or stereotype ethnic minorities ?

Not sure if it's purposeful racism or subconscious....but yes white audience have an obvious bias, this is why it's financial suicide, most of the time, to not have a White main character or black main character(depending on the type of movie).

I guess that was kind of imprecise. I only meant that the history channel in their "Barbarians Rising" series made Hannibal a black african.
