    Cliffs:
    • Duration of all contests are 4 minutes, rather than 5.
    • Yuko has been taking out of the scoring systems. Only Ippon and waza-ari
    • 10 second hold down as a waza-ari, 20 second hold down is declared as ippon
    • Judo matches can only be won on scores, not on penalties. Matches go to golden score if both fighters just have shidos.
    • 3 shidos now equate to a DQ, not 4.
    • More grips have been made available such as pistol grips, end of the sleeve grips and two on one grips are all allowed for 45 secs, but still no inside the sleeve grips.
    • You have to attack as long as you are gripping, refs will be stricter with fighters playing defensively and give shidos to them if they are just sitting back while sustaining these grips.
    • First leg grab (intentionally or not) while result in a shido, the second time this happens it will be a DQ.

    Thoughts?

i've liked all the recent rule revisions of the past 2 years. if they brought leg grabs back i'd have nothing to bitch about.

Overall, I like the changes. I wish they had kept the match time at 5 minutes though, rather than lowering it to 4. Also, I wish leg grabs were allowed, but the loosening on grip restrictions is a great change.

Add back in leg grabs and I'll quit my bitching. Hell, I might even compete in Judo again.

I like everything other then the no leg grabs. All the other rules are designed with the thought of making competition more Ippon driven, and more exciting. I think if it works more and more people will tune into the sport, the only thing I don't like is no leg grabs :(

What will this all mean? Will Judo become like Sambo? How do you expect the matches to play out now?

bruh they still don't let us blast double or 'bear hug' or even guillotine, you think they're gonna let us put on booty shorts and heel hook everybody?

How are they scoring things that would formerly be yuko's now? Bumped up to waza ari is what the video seemed to say?

i'm wondering that myself? the various sources i've seen said they 'eliminated' yuko but i'm not sure if that means we don't call them or waive them up to wazari?
