Until this day I just don’t understand why?

So many people truly believed that Conor would KO Floyd and that’s including my physical therapist and my other sergeant cop friend who were very intelligent people? I mean Conor did great against smaller MMA fighters that’s very true, but he never had any professional boxing record!
Was this an experiment of mass hysteria or hypnosis or just believing the UFC hype machine on a mass level? Can someone please explain why so many had wholeheartedly believed an MMA fighter would actually defeat an undefeated legend boxer in a boxing match?

It's Conor fans convincing themselves that Conor stood a chance.

They'll only ever talk about that one uppercut he landed that didn't even wobble Floyd and they've dined off it since.

That's not a knock on Conor, he just was never on the same level as one of the greatest boxers of all time. To think he actually stood a chance against Floyd in boxing was nothing more than the hype train getting a bit silly.

Are you telling us that marketing works? Of course some people was going to believe it, at least to some degree. If nobody would have watched the fight.

Do the amount of casuals polluting combat sports surprise you?

Have you seen the average intellect of Conor fans? You’d have a more constructive dialogue with a potato than anyone of those idiots.

Most people that thought that bought the hype and/or are Conor nut huggers. It was obvious to the more knowledgeable he wouldn’t win. Conor may be a great striker in mma, but boxing is different, especially when you’re going up against one of the greats. Floyd had beaten guys with much better hands than Conor.

What baffled me was some guys that didn’t even like Conor thought his left hand would drop any living human being which was really absurd

I think this has likely been talked about enough to get an idea of why. It's very casual sports fans who don't understand the sports of boxing and MMA and the vast differences between the two. There are a lot of those people. Anyone who closely followed boxing with an in-depth understanding of the sweet science and the brilliance of Floyd Mayweather knew without a doubt that Conor had a 0% chance of winning that fight.

Very true and imagine people believing that Floyd could take Conor down and submit him knowing that Conor had 50 fights undefeated

Eh. Someone on this board (think it was you @Ackmed ) once told me Islam stood a good chance against Floyd in a boxing match because Khabib "outboxed" Conor, and Islam outboxes Khabib in sparring.

Nuthuggers are pretty universal. Everyone is willing to convince themselves of something that isn't true if their favorite fighter is involved.

    The arguments were:

    1. Floyd is old, shell of his former self.
    2. Conor is motivated, hungrier, nothing to lose.
    3. Conor hits hard

The people that knew their shit understood that this is essentially a simillar scenario to a blue belt going against Rickson Gracie.

I hate to admit it but I thought Conor had more than a punchers chance. Still picked Floyd tho.

I honestly believe Conor owe these fans(dickriders) some of his money because they raised the bar really high in hyping the fight!

I think Khabib would go the distance with Floyd by running away the whole fight honestly and hit and run strategy

MMA boxing and regular boxing are very different. Some people don’t get that. The same tactics don’t work. It’s like saying a hockey player could hang against a speed skater in a race because they ice skate too. Totally different, they don’t skate the same way.

Terry Conklin had a better shot of knocking out James Roper. At least Conklin had won a Golden Gloves.

If you genuinely believed McGregor had a prayer, you're retarded.
