Question for you MMA HW aficionado's, is the division beginning to look like it's entering a great era?

Like, maybe something like a 1990's Boxing HW era?

I see guys like Ngannou, Blaydes, Jairzinho, Gane, Pavlovic etc. seems like it's turning into a very healthy young division.

Also, bonus question: How much does a HW like Ngannou make per fight?

Vakhaev beat Goncharov, think it was a 4th round submission. Big win for him.

I've heard this mentioned in this thread before, what's the deal with this? Is Vakhaev dodgy?

Nothing of interest really, Austen Lane's chin has been proven to be iffy so no interest in him as a prospect.

How often has Quintero retired by now?
Feels like he retires after every fight and comes back 2 months later.

    Vanderaa fighting Lopez again ?
And isn't he still the EFC HW champ? If he would defend his title 1 or 2 more times, he surely would get the UFC call sooner, than with fighting the likes of Tony Lopez on regional shows.

Vanderaa is harming his career fighting at HW in my opinion. He's not bad, but he's a 205lb'er and fighting at HW is damaging his potential.

I'm not sure about it being the golden era but I agree that the division is improving. There are finally younger heavyweights who seem capable of taking over when the current elite calls it a day.

Ngannou was on 120k/120k for the JDS fight.

Ngannou is 33, Jairzinho is 32, Gane is 30. I wouldnt call it particularly young, if anything Blades (29) and Pavlovich are somewhat young (27). So I think its a stretch to compare it to 90s HW Boxing (Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Foreman, Moorer, Riddick Bowe, Golota, Klitchko, Tua). Although it is a very good batch of HWs, though.
I would be concerned if Ngannou beats Jairzinho but loses to Stipe again; this would leave the division ina weird spot.

For me the golden age is still Pride with Fedor, Big Nog, Cro Cop, Kharitonov, Barnett, Werdum etc. but to be honest I came to MMA after it had all finished. Still seems like that was the period with the best heavyweight division

Yeah, I agree and you can add to that list Hunt, Aleksander, and Schilt. Its just a shame PRIDE's matchmaking was very erratic back in those days. There are many match ups we never got to see. Sergei vs Crocop, Sergei vs Hunt, Hunt vs Schilt, Aleksander vs Big Nog, Werdum vs Barnett, Barnett vs Fedor, Fedor vs Sergei, Aleksander vs Schilt, etc
