Hello!

Owing to the success of the first ever Rankings game (whatever you want to call it), I'm now running a second six-monthly tournament!

PLEASE NOTE: I have reduced the number of points for selecting a future UFC Champion from 25 to 20, as some users felt it skewed the results too much. While it's an incredible feat, I tend to agree. 20 points is still a higher-than-normal amount (it's 15 for the #1 ranked fighter anyway), so there is still a bonus element to it. Good luck finding the next one!

----

Game Rules:

Pick 1 unranked fighter from each division that you believe will be ranked on the 1st July 2023. It doesn't count if they are ranked next week, but drop back out before the mid-year interval; you get no points.

If you pick more than 1 unranked fighter in a division, your pick for that division is disqualified. If you accidentally pick a ranked fighter, your pick for that division is disqualified.

At various points, I'll lock people's picks in so they can't edit them later. I'll let you know as/when I lock your picks in, but up until then you can still edit them.

When July 1 2023 comes, I'll score you.

Scoring will work like this:

1 point for 15th, 2 points for 14th, and so on, with 15 points for being the number 1 ranked fighter. I'll give you 20 points if your pick is the champion on that date, but it's very unlikely.

Person with the most points will win... something. Like, actually something, as long as I can get it to you.

DEADLINE: Midnight 13th January 2023 (the night before the next fight card) - NO EXCEPTIONS.

MW is too few good options
LW and WW are hard too because it's all based on who fights who

Completely re-editing this before the timeline, cuz I accidentally made a 12 month prediction instead of 6. Here's the screenshot for posterity

(I still think that's gonna be a strong 12 month pick, I'm coming back next January.)

My predictions:

FLW: Jesus Santos Aguilar
BW: Kyler Phillips
FW: Damon Jackson
LW: Alexander Volkanovski
WW: Randy Brown
MW: Gregory Rodrigues
LHW: Alonzo Menifield
HW: Jailton Almeida

WSW: Lupita Godinez
WFLW: Miranda Maverick
WBW: Chelsea Chandler

I'll separate my notes from the list, just for cleanliness sake.

HW- I could see Marcos Rogerio de Lima easily finding his way into the rankings too, but Jailton's booked, so, probably better chance.

LHW- Similar story here. Alonzo has a lot of momentum and already booked to fight Crute, who was only removed from the rankings after losses to high ranked Smith and Hill. Jacoby is probably a better pick in that he was on a hell of an unbeaten streak only to drop a questionable decision in a fight that would have seen him ranked, but that means he's probably getting booked backwards due to the loss. Again, I lean towards the already booked. HM Ulberg and Murzakanov.

MW- Khamzat is a shoo-in for a MW ranking, but I think that may be later in the year. I'm tempted to take an underdog pick, if Brendan Allen beats Muniz in Feb, that can take him really far. But I'll go Robocop. He should have been fighting Tavares to get ranked, but I think he can steamroll into the rankings anyway with a win or two.

WW- I originally picked Wells, cuz while a Brown-Maddalena will clearly result in something big, one of them has to lose, while I figured Wells will go on a run all by himself, but that'd take all year I think. So I just gotta flip the coin and go with Randy Brown. He's a tough test.

LW- I feel cheap for this, because I think picking whether or not Volk will be ranked next January is more interesting, but I think, win or lose, he's going to be a high ranked lightweight after this. I was actually going to take Tukhugov, who was set to fight the very nearly ranked Joel Alvarez on the same card, just as a sidewinder pick cuz he's not even currently a lightweight, so I figured no one would pick him, but it seems there are VERY recent rumors this fight fell apart. I'm really upset about that one.

FW- 5-1, only loss to Ilia, last win over other prospect Sabatini, and booked to fight #13 Ige in January? Yeah, I'll take that one

BW- I'm dropping Lapilus as my pick, only cuz I think he's going to have a much stronger second half of 2023. He's still injured right now. Kyler is 4-1 in the UFC, with a win over Yadong, and his only loss being a probably poorly judged absolute banger, and is set to fight Assuncao, which should earn him good value.

FLW- I'm sticking with Jesus, and you can't stop me!

WSW- Calvillo is moving down from flyweight, and even though she's on a big losing streak, she's still #14 there. Her wrestling is the only thing that was getting her wins, and she's on a big downturn, set to fight Loopy, who has some great wrestling in her family, and should really only have 1 loss in the UFC, to a perrenially ranked fighter.

WFLW- Miranda Maverick should only have one loss to fiery prospect Blanchfield, and her loss to currently ranked Barber was maybe the worst decision of 2021. Frankly feel like she should be ranked already, but she's sure to earn one this year.

WBW- I think the 3 potential picks here for right now are Pudilova, Chandler, and Vidal. All of them won their debuts in great fashion last year in August, October, and November respectively, so I would normally give Pudilova the nod for her head start, but you'll note this isn't her first run in the UFC, and getting tapped by the likes of Antonina Shevchenko is hard to forget. Plus, of their wins, Chandler's was probably the best, so I'll stick with her.

Rankings don't matter

You being right or not has no bearing on people playing a prediction game. As a matter of fact, it makes it the one area you are undoubtedly incorrect

Then why aren't people playing it?

Pretty irrelevant post here. Why aren't people playing in this thread? It's been up less than 24 hours and takes a lot of work and thought, cuz answers get locked in. People played in the last one. And a lack of players have nothing to do with whether or not rankings matter, so even if no one else joins, that means nothing.

Again, just makes you incorrect.

Other people having some fun?

I must tell them they're wrong!
