Again, no he wasn't. facts.
He broke his leg at 38, popped at 39. To say he was in his 40's is not only factually incorrect but it has the suggestion that he was older than 40.
Stop trying to make him sound ancient to fit the narrative. When someone calls you out on a false statement maybe double check before doubling down.
he was fucking 39 years old going on 40 and popped after a serious leg injury after fighting for 20 years, so my point still remains that I give him a pass
is that ok?
Much better, yes. I actually agree with your general point, but that doesn't mean you get a pass for lying and then sticking to it.
See, you are upset at me for sticking to facts, but people don't usually say "in his 40s" if someone is 40, unless we are trying to create a narrative (it makes someone sound more like mid 40s). Another reason Sherdog sucks: exaggerations and narratives are the name of the game.
exaggerations and narratives are part of life
how do you think it was before the internet when the old grandpas at the bar would make up whatever they wanted without it being possible to fact check?
just let me live
GSP would’ve taken Whittaker to school if his gut disease didn’t prevent him from retiring for good.
Uriah Hall and Darren Till have the highest chance of beating Izzy out of the current top 15 MW fighters.
Usman is a definite #2 GOAT WW, high quality of wins and imo is 3 title defenses away from securing the GOAT WW crown (although admittedly would be hard to accomplish given how stacked the roster is)
BJJ is a weak base for MMA and we will likely don’t see any champ in the future that is mainly a BJJ specialist. Karate and Kickboxing guys will soon takeover the sport.
Reverse that - Aldo #1 and prime Eddie #2 - and I agree with you.A prime Eddie Alvarez is probably Khabib's worst matchup at LW, with prime Aldo being a close second.
- Khabib's accomplishments don't qualify him in the GOAT conversation
I could go either way. Aldo would be the tougher technical matchup, but at a certain point to beat Khabib you would likely need just ridiculous physicality and strength, which Alvarez has more of. He's also a much more consistent body puncher than Aldo, which I think would be important.Reverse that - Aldo #1 and prime Eddie #2 - and I agree with you.
Khabib's camp turned down Aldo after Eddie vs McGregor was made. Not Aldo's camp.
More divisions would be ok in my book. So would more fighter pay.I disagree, and I don't think MMA can ever go much more main stream
At the end of the day its cage fighting, no matter how many rules or whatever you want to impose. There is a reason why main events are held at 12AM EST. How many wives and older people would stay up for that shit? It can never be football or soccer. You will never have 6 year old kids wearing a Reebok Francis Ngannou shirt like they would a Dallas Cowboys jersey (unless he has retarded parents)
It isn't a sport you can watch during Sunday dinner with your wife and grandma. You can call it a legitimate sport all you want, but when you see women fighters getting elbowed on the ground splattering blood everywhere, or Derrick Lewis pounding an unconscious man's skull repeatedly against the ground when the fight is over, you are going to be alienated from a good majority of casual sports fans
Dana White represents the sport and caters to the target demographic
Once Dana White is gone and there is a politically correct douche as the figure head, MMA will fall behind boxing which due to the less graphic nature can attract more casual sports fans
When Dana White is gone I see a guy with no spine being put at the realm, someone who caters to fighter pay and politically correct opinions (which will alienate hardcore fans and still not attract new fans), I see more divisions being created, more titles, and eventually it will turn into boxing in regard to fighters having more of a voice
