Unlike GSP, Conor doesn't need a mass market from his home country to boost PPV sales.

You do understand the Irish are self loathing and hate their culture and themselves.

Canadians might be very arrogant and act like lemmings but at least they are proud.

There still looks like there's about a 1/3 of tickets left to sell for ufc 196. To be fair, it was always a bloody awful card unless you're interested in the women's co-main event. An even then...

Love both McGregor and St. Pierre. Don't really care about their PPV numbers.

I liked this thread better when it was titled

"Unlike GSP, McGregor is an embarrassment to his country".

Spoken like a true ugly American. Canada has always punched above it's weight, from wars to Olympics.

You know how the term "can" came about? It was because American boxers used to call Canadians that because they always beat them up. Meaning they made canucks bleed like tomato cans and would only bring them into the gym to beat them up in training.

Not attacking. Speaking the truth.

What you think is truth does not equal truth. This fallacy has been debunked many times, the fact is, Canadians buy lots of PPVs, GSP or no GSP, actually they buy more PPVs per capita than Americans.

So what do you plead? Ignorance or cheap shot against GSP?

2/10

Zuffa literally booked a world tour to promote Conor. Stop and think about that sentence. They paid millions of dollars to visit cities around the world and a huge media campaign to build him up.

For his part, Conor is both exciting and brash on the mic, which makes an excellent partner for a PR blitz. Make no mistake, Zuffa hand picks a few fighters like Conor and Rousey and puts all of their marketing dollars and efforts into them.

Georges became a national icon without being promoted as a media sensation. It's a totally different thing.

That's nonsense. The world tour was to promote the fight/event Conor was known in all the cities they travelled to - it's not like he's known for being reserved and only came out of his shell the longer he's being in the UFC. A lot of folk this side of the pondwould have known him from CW's. They went to both fighters country and cities that would have no shortage of MMA media. Don't forget MacDonald and Lawler joined up when they went to Toronto and New York, so it wasn't completely just the FW fight that was being promoted. Given that it was Aldo v Conor, the co-main event, International fight week and knowing there would be huge support coming out, I'm sure they were expecting to make a huge return on the expenses promoting the fight from the event.

The only comparison with Conor and GSP is having/had most of the MMA community in their country supporting them, travelling to Vegas to watch and pay more than the average ticket for a PPV and people who don't watch MMA except for their fights or have a passing interest in it will watch the fights.

If the weather here wasn't so unpredictable, they'd have sold 90,000 tickets for an event at Croke Park. There's an easy way of getting around the issue with the residents. And as for the curfew, just hold the event earlier. I'm sure people on the West coast of the States wouldn't not buy a PPV here because it'd mean watching it around mid-day and early evening on the East coast.

Lol TS there are more people of Irish decent in America then there are people in Canada.

It's because winning is the norm in USA not some rare occurrence that requires celebration.

i'm pretty sure canada won more gold (and silver) medals than the united states in the 2014 olympics.

if anything, it's more like uneducated gloating is the norm in the USA.

lol we're talking about combat sports history. Canada winning more medals in the winter olympics means jack shit "aboot" what anybody is talking about.

Gsp predicted Conor could be a chpion back when everyone would say "Who does he train with? Nobody good is Ireland." Chael Sonnen was talking about how it can't be done. Maybe that's why GSP was champ and Chael was a talker.

Meaning, his PPV sales aren't gonna be boosted by all the Irish fans in Ireland. Yeah, in America, he has a ton of Irish American fans, but a huge chunk of his sales aren't gonna be from the country of Ireland. Conor spans every nationality of fight fan, and mostly all his sales are from US fans, period.

Anyone would be interested in watching Conor. He's not a boring decision machine like GSP. He's all action, and his mouth attracts fans like a moth to a flame. It was usually GSP's opponents that would attempt to sell the fight with pre fight hype.

So? Who cares where they live, fact is that every single one of those fans would describe themselves as Irish whether they live in Ireland or Boston. Conor has tons of support among the Irish, much more than GSP had among French Canadians simply because there are way more Irish than Quebecers.

Give it a rest the world knows Canada is a joke. Canadians just like to believe they are not Americas hat.

this would have a chance at accuracy if the rest of the world had never heard of donald trump.

a lot of the rest of the world sees this:

hey that does kind of look like a hat.

sorry, i stand corrected.
