Unlike Conor, GSP doesn't need trashtalk or playing games to boost PPV sales.

Such a humble and amazing guy. Im not from Canada but I can imagine canadians being proud of him.

Did all his talk in the cage. A special athlete competing on the top level for such a long time and retiring past his prime but still on as #1 WW. Lawler is doing good too. He is kickings asses while still being a nice guy.

Pure sport... not some WWE drama.

Very true, but it's also why Conor is making more than GSP ever did.

Basically think of real life, think of a random classroom, or random workplace. Let's say there's 30 people in a classroom. Out of that room, if you analyzed the personalities, it would be a bell curve, where "average" people would be in the middle peak (personality-wise, not intelligence), the "mean," hard to get along with people are on the far right side (out of 30, probably between 0 and 1 person like that in a random room), and then on the far left, you've got those "exceptionally" nice people. People who seem truly selfless and just lacks ego.

Basically, when dealing with a combat sport, that bell curve starts to look more like a slope, rising from left to right, where the true, aggressive, "mean," frat boy, stereotypical meathead bullying types are more prone to exist (due to the nature of the activity), while the SEEMINGLY good guys (Nate Quarry, Randy Couture, GSP, Holly Holm), are very much few and far between, and when you see them, they tend to stand out.

One last example. How many "Nate Quarry" types do you see at the gym, for those of you who workout? While people in the middle of that bell curve, and even a good handful of those on the extreme right of the bell curve are plentiful in an environment like that.

GSP was built up through some pretty amazing fights and rivalries. Also had a nation behind him to make fights even bigger (like Conor). If he came up through the sport today he wouldn't be a big star at all imo.

How many PPVs was he selling during his first 7 UFC fights? Also, what was the average PPV when GSP was getting big numbers vs the average PPV today? Oh....and Conor doesn't do an WWF drama he just speaks the truth.

I'm pretty sure this thread is a response to : Connor doesn't need his country's mass market to get PPV buys.

He kinda uses an entire nation and more specifically a province of that nation that is incredibly patriotic.

Of course, he was around for the good ol days where feuds with penn and hughes boosted his popularity. if GSP emerged now, he wouldn't be nearly as popular.

I can assure you, Irish people are proud of Conor. GSP did his thing, Conor is doing his thing.

Is it compare Conor and GSP week on here or something?

I'll bet Conor would view (being compared to GSP) as an honor of the highest order. (despite the fact that that was likely not your intent). Tell me...how do you REALLY feel about Conor McGregor?
