At first I didn't have an issue with Aljo getting the belt, as nothing similar haven't occurred before, so champion loses by DQ, it sounds like automatically the second party should get the belt.
I haven't put into much about that, besides that Aljo is a true paper champion, because you cannot really be a champion without winning a fight, but... as Max would say: It is what it is.
But yesterday I actually changed my mind.
I think there is a much better option in cases like that.
If they would DQ Yan, but the title would go vacant 2 things would be better for sure:
1. Now, after seeing Aljo ducking the rematch with Yan, we can actually skip this fight, as champion can call their shots, and UFC might give Aljo CCC, and that's for sure not the right thing to do.
2. Aljo would not become people's enemy, and for sure will rematch Yan ASAP.

I hope that UFC in the future if similar cases will occur will change their policy.

“ I am Unimpressed by your performance” for a 16 year old account.
Title should have been vacated, yan vs sterling should have been rebooked for the vacant belt. Sterling is not a champion he did not win anything he was gifted a belt on a silver platter.

Also the UFC will not have to pay either fighter as a champion in the next championship fight.

Dana has already said they're running it back ASAP. Get ready for Yan-Aljo 2.

If they made the belt vacant it would be way easier to screw Aljo out of the rematch. "Aljo was losing badly anyway so let's see Yan get his belt back against someone new."

I know that Dana said it, but what he says and does not always the same.
If the title would be vacant, Aljo would be motivated to do it again.
Regarding Aljo being fucked, maybe they didn't want people to say that Aljo was screwed because he is black, or simply because they did not have it before, weren't ready for it and took this decision on fly.
I do hope we will see the rematch soon.

I honestly give Aljo a better chance in the rematch. He wasted so much energy on the takedowns and doing spins at the worst possible time. I feel like if he plays a long pressure game, he's got a solid shot at winning the fight.

This outcome is definitely better than him taking an L which is what would've happened if Yan didn't tweak like that.

Now Aljo's team can make some adjustments and do better in the rematch.

That said, I think Yan murders him this time around.

I didn't look from UFC perspective, but yes, it is correct as well.

I would actually take it a step further. alho is the CHEATER here, not yan. alho should be stripped and cut permanently.

yan made a mistake in the heat of the moment, but it is pretty clear he did not believe he was breaking the rules. the usual remedy for such infractions is a point deduction. in fact, most fighters are never penalized for even blatant or repeated fouls. jon jones for example with his eye pokes.

alho on the other hand faked being too injured to continue, which is expressly against the rule of timidity. he lied to the ref and the fans in order to win a fight he would have otherwise lost. his malingering affected the outcome, because if he had been truthful the ref would have elected to deduct a point rather than stop the fight.

sterling is not only a paper champ but a dishonest cheater who should be stripped and cut. he is a dark stain on the ufc.

They'll run it back soon. Calm down. Yan will probably put him away quicker this time, he was already running away with the fight. He knows how to beat him now.

It's going to be hilarious to see them announce aljo as "undisputed" though.

I don’t think any of these ideas people are throwing around will result in anything but different problems.

So you want a DQ to result in a vacant title and a rematch, right?

so basically any fighter can get a do-over if they need to by commuting a foul, or getting fouled and saying they can’t continue.

“Fight isn’t going my way, or I just got injured with 2 rounds to go.. fuck it, I’ll knee dude in the face and rematch him when I’m healthy. “

“man I can’t lose my belt to this asshole. Guess I’ll Knee him in the face.”

Idk where you heard that champions can decide the opponents over the head of the company

No, that's not what I said.
I said that fighter should not win a title by DQ.
In this specific case when Yan was winning he does should get a rematch, but if he did it being while was loosing he just should not get the rematch.
Either was the title should not pass to someone who did not win it.
So a vacant belt should be in any case, as was in Figurado - Banavides case.

It's not that the champ was deciding before, he only asked and got what he wished for....
CCC -> asked for Aldo. Aldo could not make it. -> CCC asked for Cruz.... Non of them was deserving it.

That's only one example I could think of right now.

I'm sure there are a lot more.

Henry beating Sterling would set up a HUGE fight with Yan.

I don't think we will see anything different besides the first round being much closer. Aljo won the first round barely for me off the crazy pressure and still got dropped. The wrestling difference was the biggest game changer. Yan is better in the clinch with those trips and Sterling can't wrestle for 5 rounds. I think the only way Aljo wins is to win the first three rounds on points on the feet and then survive for the last 2. Yan seems to be the better defensive wrestler and able to keep it on the feet.

I will definitely be tuning in but I will be putting money on the late KO finish by Yan. Maybe 4th or 5th round after Sterling runs/panic wrestles.

Aljo wasn't faking. That knee got him fucked up.
He was dizzy. If he tries to continue it's not going to go well.
Also you're confused on the rules because if he does continue after an intentional foul, it's a 2-point deduction, not 1.

Fight vs Joe B was vacant because Figgy missed weight, that is how it works if one guy misses weight in a title fight, only the guy who made weight can win the belt. Completely different situation which has nothing to do with this.

You are talking about creating a rule that would allow a fighter to have the ability to take his opponent’s ability to win the belt away by fouling them and getting DQ’d.

The rule is there for a reason, disqualification is the punishment for breaking the rules.
You lose, the other guy wins.

The guy who follows the rules shouldn’t have his win bonus taken away from him because his opponent broke the rules, nor should he lose his opportunity to win the title, not get his win bonus and have the chance to be paid as champion in his next fight taken away... because his opponent broke the rules.

Actions have repercussions.

I get that fans don’t like the idea of a guy winning a belt off of a DQ, but you can’t punish the guy who followed the rules because the outcome doesn’t suit what you want it to be.

If a fighter gets disqualified, he loses and the other guy wins, that’s just the way it is.

Petr Yan should have followed the fucking rules there is absolutely no excuse for a world champion to not know the basic rules of the sport they compete in.
