UN vote for Israeli withdrawal from Palestine incurs strong Washington Oppositon

Big surprise.....

Palestinian statehood resolution fails at UN Security Council

US voted against it but did not veto it.

A vote against by a permanent member is a veto.

Also saw that Australia voted against, maybe in the wake of islamic attacks?

you do realize the palestinians living in palestine and gaza are not living under israeli rule but rather occupation?

oh but you don't hate muslims though right joe?

Under rule and under occupation.

Perhaps you need to read this article which I've posted before (from Oct. 2nd, 2014):

What are the death totals in Palestine since about 2006 - about 1400 (all virtually by retaliatory response).

How many Christians have been forced out of Iraq since 2003? About 1.2 million.

Staisticians can't even keep up to the killing by ISIS.

Boko Haram has killed as much as ISIS.

Like I've said before, there are much bigger fish to fry in the world.

Kind of agree, the world certainly places much more importance on Palestine than other more dire situations.

The US has insisted on a negotiated peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, not an imposed timetable.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird called on the Security Council members to vote down the resolution and focus on encouraging negotiations instead.

“Canada fundamentally believes that Palestinian statehood can only be a by-product of negotiations with the State of Israel,” Baird said in a statement. “We have long rejected unilateral action on either side, as we believe it is ultimately unhelpful to the cause of peace.”

US State Department spokesman Rathke had told reporters in Washington on Monday that the new draft resolution “is not something that we would support, and other countries share the same concerns that we have.”

“We think it sets arbitrary deadlines for reaching a peace agreement and for Israel’s withdrawal from the West Bank, and those are more likely to curtail useful negotiations than to bring them to a successful conclusion,” Rathke said. “Further, we think that the resolution fails to account for Israel’s legitimate security needs.”

There is no such thing as a veto in the security council. A vote against by any of the permanent members doesnt passes the resolution.

If a resolution passes then it passes.

And I'm sorry to keep reiterating this, but the situation is championed by the Islamic community (hence the marches [most of which are violent] world-wide of Palestinian solidarity).

I've posted the Red Crescent web-site before, with Palestinian/GAZA propaganda as the sole subject material running across the top of the site. The only alternate world news stories are provided by UNICEF, IIFRC, Care and other unbiased charity agencies.

Compared to the christian-started charity of the Red Cross (now titled: International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies)

One group fixates on its own tiny issue magnified a thousand-fold, while the other site fixates on global humanitarian issues.

But anyway, regarding the Gaza Strip I'm more or less indifferent.

To be fair, the Israeli-Palestinian situation also looks worse because its a first world nation and a US based democracy doing the occupation. And people expect more from such nations.

The Palestinian vote was a procedural draft. They could have voted no and it still could have passed.

Why oh why do people continue to vote in politicians who support the oppression of an entire people?

Not all Arabs are oppressed. Tons of them are doing a wonderful job oppressing others themselves.

Or you buy into that whole Palestinians being any different than Egyptians or Jordanians propaganda??

Hey heads up, if you're gonna mash the report button, dont be name calling with the guy youre reporting.

Come on. Nicky spent so much of 2014 on dubbs I forgot what his AV looked like.

Besides, threads like this are how I keep up on world events.
