The U.N. Security Council is expected to vote on Tuesday on a Palestinian draft resolution that calls for Israel to withdraw from Palestinian territories by late 2017, a measure that is unlikely to pass due to strong opposition from Washington.

    Shouldn't this concern Americans?

Most of the world agrees on one thing and even our elected president, BUT NOT CONGRESS!

Why oh why do people continue to vote in politicians who support the oppression of an entire people?

They're never getting back the pre-'67 borders. Bring a real draft to the table, and maybe we won't piss on it.

no, they are to negotiate BASED on the 67 borders, what the us is unhappy with is the palestinians are saying there is a timeframe to this. because they know without a mandated time frame the israelis will tank the talks and it will be a waste of time again. so they already know the strict 67 borders won't work.

perhaps you should learn more before decided to piss on their draft? everyone knows the 67 borders don't work, the palestinians simply want the unsc to demand a time frame from the zionists. if not, they will never leave.

I'm a bit torn on this.

On one hand, the US is right. Why doesn't the PALESTINIANS push forward a deal. Not America, not Egypt, not Israel, the PALESTINIAN LEADERSHIP either Hamas or PA should say "accept this agreement and we will recognize you and have peace." This has never happened.

On the other hand, the settlements are both the biggest evil and the biggest roadblock to peace. There is no justification for them. They are expanding at a faster pace every day--- regardless of Palestinian interest or lack thereof, they need to be stopped and a UN resolution and sanctions may be the only way to do this.

Israel won't accept 1967 borders, since that would mean withdrawing all settlements in West Bank they built over the decade. Those settler are significant vote banks that any Israeli government would not risk alienating. The gloomy problem with Israeli-Arab conflict is that Israelis have to win every time, while Arabs only have to win once to bring down Israel. While I don't see any Arab states challenging Israel's military might in the next 30 years, no one can speak for the future.

the palestinians have agreed to negotiate land swaps with the israelis so the larger settlements will go to israel.

i've come to the conclusion that the problem isn't the palestinians OR the israelis, it's the breathtaking stupidity of the american people and their expert level ignorance.

No, this is about getting Israeli settlements out of the Palestinian state.

It does not make formalized peace with Israel. It does not make a truce with Israel. It does not recognize Israel nor does it have Israel recognize Palestine. It does not define borders, nor does it actually take Israel away from their borders.

It is literally just ending settlements. Which is great, but you know, not a fucking peace deal.

I assume this was just another rage filled response and you actually knew this though, right?

With the increasingly scary gains of the Israeli right, don't be so sure about Israeli having to win every time. If the PA falls and Hamas gains more legitimacy, there may not be a Palestine.

as if you know the first gd thing about hamas or the conflict.

hamas is not the primary factor, the israelis could work a deal with fatah and isolate gaza until they hold elections. this would be so gd easy to make hamas a non factor. but they don't want that, because they want to steal land. and peace means no more stealing land and an end to the greater israel project.

Oh, I know plenty, and in the larger picture, I am on your side. I know who the bad guys are, and both sides have them.

god fucking damn it, i give up on america, period. lmao!

this is not a peace deal, what it does is actually FORCE a peace deal as a unsc mandate. which is the ONLY way to get a deal with likud in power. once this passes they have 1 year to work out all of the issues, and then 1 year for israel to withdraw. this is NOT too much to ask, it is the ONLY way for this to work. bibi is going to be in power for the next year, do you think he's going to work on peace without the threat of sanctions?

duuuur it just ends settlements duuuuuur.

and that is somehow bad? so much for you constant bullshit about being against settlements.
