This is my first post so bear with me, I hope its not as newb as most of them, but I have always been curious as to why I have never seen anyone try this blood "choke" in MMA.

For anyone who isn't familiar, when you are born your heart rate is controlled by a nerve connected to your mothers nervous system through your umbilical cord. After you are born the nerve stays embedded in the body right under (or near) the belly button, and keeps its function!

This is why you see retarded kids getting high by pushing their belly button, what they are really doing is choking themselves out!

It seems to me that if you had a good side control, that one could execute this choke under certain circumstances. 5-10 seconds of hard pressure in the belly button will put most people to sleep. This may also catch seasoned fighters off guard (they may not defend fast enough) because it doesn't hurt while you do it, so people may not get what you are doing until they start feeling dizzy.

Has anyone ever tried this in competition? Does it have a name? Could it work?

Thanks guys!

what the fa fa fuuuck, I've never heard of this before.

I guess it could work?

ps: Welcome to Sherdog by the way

Now granted this won't work on everyone, the location of the nerve aroudn the belly button is random, and sometimes it may be too deep. But anyone who reads this, scoffs, and thinks HA HA that will never work. Push two fingers into your belly button for 10 seconds then see if you are laughing! (dont do this near sharp objects or hard floor please).

I would expect to see someone pass out from knee in belly position if that were the case.

No offense but it sounds Dim Makish to me.

But next time I ride knee on belly I will see about planting my knee sqaurely in that region.

Check out a neuroscience text book.

This function is located in the brain by about 4 months old. The Electrical systole which causes the heart to contract is regulated by the Medulla if I remember correctly. The timing of the impulses is manipulated by several types of Neuro-transmitters.

Some forms of developmental pathology allow the nerve to stay fuctional until puberty but the regulation of the HR is always fully transfered to the brain very early

Post a source with these statements for verification purposes.

No Colonel Sanders, youre wrong!!!!!

"Metalsub. that umbilical choke is for the devil"

now thats some high quality online posting

Even if this could work, it would probably be banned immediately. Nobody wants to pay for a ppv to see a guy submit to jamming your thumb in his naval.

Put this in the same catagory as small joing manipulation.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't work. I'm not a doctor, but I'm sure people would have passed out from knee of the belly, body triangles or just getting punched in the stomach. And just for kicks I tried pushing my belly button(and all around my belly button), just to see if it worked. Nope, just made my fingers sore. I'm calling BS on this. Where is Myth busters when you need them.

I hear if you stick your thumb in a guys rectum that he may pass out.....or kill you..one or the other!

LoLz @ this thread!1!!1

Seems as legit as this <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wiNpcRdofz4"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wiNpcRdofz4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I agree with theraydiator that if anyone successfully did this move it would be banned immediately. Aren't nerve strikes illegal anyways?

It is true that the nerve function is partially removed once one hits puberty, and the nerve end can end up at different depths, but this definately does work on a portion of the population. I am 22, 208 lbs, been doing martial arts since I was a child, and it works on me. And no I wasn't one of those kids who got high doing it, but I was shown it by another bjj student.

I went and got three of my friends to try (all over 20) and it worked on one completely (he felt woozy in seconds) one partially (only able to be a bit woozy at all) and one not at all

As for knee in the stomach / body triangle, I believe the pressure must be very focused on the nerve to be able to work. Again I'm not asking if this is a good move, just if its possible.

wow you're an idiot! welcome to the forum

The way you explained it, this isn't even a choke. It doesn't stop the flow of blood to your brain, it stops your heart. If this is the case, then when you do it to someone they should feel their heart stop, not a choking sensation. Until I hear that it's possible from a doctor, I'm saying there is no way this is true.
