Nothing changes outside of decriminalizing abortion for women.
No.. it decriminalises
all abortion at any time. also means sex selection is now a valid reason... welcome to the start of eugenics.
abortions within the legal time frames.. have
been legal for 55 years.
And it was exceedingly exceexingly rare for a woman to be charged and convicted for a illegal abortion... 3 in 150 years...
Between 1861 and 2022, only three women in Britain were convicted of having illegal abortions, according to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, which works to improve women's healthcare.
The 22-24 weeks parameter still exists. Doctors aren't going to help women get a late term abortion unless it is medically required. The physicians can still be charged or held liable.
which is why the change they just made.... is bad. Now it is legal. To kill their baby at any time..... yes the drs have responsibilities still. The women dont...
Its literally the case that caused a big push to changed these laws
A mother who was jailed for illegally taking abortion tablets to end her pregnancy during lockdown will be released from prison after the Court of Appeal reduced her sentence.
Carla Foster, 45, admitted illegally procuring her own abortion when she was between 32 and 34 weeks pregnant.
She procured pills by post from the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) after providing information that led staff to believe she was seven weeks pregnant.
Although abortion is legal up to 24 weeks, after 10 weeks the procedure is carried out in a clinic.
At at least 32 weeks or around eight months' gestation, [the baby] was a fully formed human child. If her mother had been given an in-person appointment by BPAS, she would still be alive," she added.
.
Prosecutors argued Foster had provided false information knowing she was over the time limit and had made online searches which they said indicated "careful planning".
The court heard between February and May 2020 she had searched "how to hide a pregnancy bump", "how to have an abortion without going to the doctor" and "how to lose a baby at six months".
Based on the information she provided the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS), she was sent the tablets because it was estimated she was seven weeks pregnant.
I don't think there is anything to really worry about in terms of mass late term abortions. If the current medical guideline changes then people should raise a fuss.
The issue is its now completely legal for the woman to circumvent medical guidelines....
No i dont think there will be a mass increase of late term abortions. But 1 or 2 is enough . I cant think of any other situation where this logic is applicable.. Well they only kill a couple. Most people wont kill their [ insert x ] so why should it be illegal ? Really odd logic to me.
And i think women like her and ms catt deserve jail.. her less than ms catt though.
Ms Catt who 36 and had two young children. She had aborted a previous pregnancy just before 24 weeks and given up a further baby for adoption.
the 3rd one she carried to full term... She obtained abortifacient drugs from an online retailer and took the drugs at full term. The body was never recovered because she hid it. Murder or abortion? One is a crime.. one is now legal.
Even 12 years ago it wasnt deemed murder.
Mr Justice Cooke, sentencing her at Leeds crown court last September, said the seriousness of the crime lay between manslaughter and murder.
He said she would have been charged with murder if the baby had been born a few days later and she had then killed him.
Catt pleaded guilty to administering a poison with intent to procure a miscarriage.
Lady Justice Rafferty, heading a panel of three judges in the court of appeal, said it was an extraordinarily difficult sentencing exercise, but the term was manifestly excessive.
Catt had waited until term before premeditatedly destroying her child, lied about it and had prevented a postmortem examination with its potential to determine the cause and timing of death.
Her persistent refusal to reveal the location of the body was originally said to be a consequence of legal advice, but was now put down to her not being "emotionally able" to address the issue.
"Mrs Catt caused the death of a foetus at term. She intended to do it. She planned what she did with some care. She ensured that when she delivered the infant, it was in private. Somewhere there is a body.
"She had known by October 2009 that she was pregnant and she had ample time to seek a lawful termination. She was not without experience in that regard."
Bottomline. Things just changed. Abortion has been literally legal in the uk for 60 years despite your repeated " nothings changed "
