MPs will vote on decriminalising abortion tomorrow with the Commons expected to back the biggest change to abortion law in Britain for half a century.

If approved by MPs women would no longer face prosecution if they aborted their own baby based on its sex, after the legal limit of 24 weeks, or without approval from doctors.

That isn't the quite the deal. They are fully decriminalizing abortion for women. Abortion has always been illegal in the UK. They wrote in some exceptions of it being partially legal before 22 weeks and some circumstances after 22 weeks. You needed two doctors to confirm this procedure.

They are decriminalizing abortion as a whole because there is a criminal investigation every time there is a miscarriage even if it is before 22 weeks. The new change is removing the 2 doctor requirement in order to move forward with this procedure. It also decriminalizes abortion for women past 22 weeks. It doesn't mean doctors are not liable to prosecution and therefore will not perform the procedure unless it is medically necessary past the 22 week mark. Doctors will set the healthcare industry standard like other medical procedures. Doctors aren't going to entertain a 8 month pregnant woman's request for an abortion.

It protects all women in extraordinary cases from prosecution. The law change are mainly affecting women that are buying abortion medication from the internet or through telemedicine. It also changes the law to follow industry standard. Those two doctors always sign off on the patient's request when it is before 22 weeks. It is a pointless step.
