Bout what I expected.

GOAT careers are long and consistent. They aren’t predicated on one win, and also not destroyed by one loss. It’s very rare that “if **** wins against ****, then they are the greatest of all time” actually applies.

Lawler was such a cool champ lol. Glad he pulled that off

I remember when he came back after strikeforce.. nobody thought he would win the belt and defend it like that.
Have we ever seen a career renaissance like his? The guy was always talented but by the time he reached the UFC again I don’t think anyone expected much. Mark Hunt has a nice resurgence too, but not that level.

Mayhem is a meme now but people forget how much of a lethal jiu jitsu specialist he was. Went to war with Jacare on the ground in dream twice IIRC.

I dunno maybe not.

His career was never totally in the trash can though. Guys like Overeem and Arlovski have surprised me coming back from brutal knockouts. Lawler just lost some decisions fighting at 185 when he shouldn't have been.

Still to this day his losses aren't that bad like Arlovski talking to God over and over each fight

Also, remember when people were claiming Woodley is the WW GOAT...
More than likely just haters of GSP.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of GSP, but I respect his legacy.

Mir had a pretty cool return after his injury; went 7-2.

Arlovski went 10-1 (1) after losing four times in a row.

Werdum went 9-1 after getting knocked out by JDS.

Overeem went 11-0 (1) after four losses in Japan.

Belfort went 10-2 after five losses between 04-06 when his sister went missing.

Another misleading thread to glorify gsp .Is gsp one of the goats ? Yes.
He is 25- 3 with a bunch of smotherfest decisions over inferior comp or tiny men ( one of them MADE HIM TAP to strikes).Of course, he has some good wins but hes not thee goat.

Glad to be here to set things straight.

All impressive, but I don’t recall any of the aforementioned labeled as journeymen and then going on to win a title. Mir looked like shit for a couple fights but came back strong in 2008/2009. Arlovski’s resurgence is kinda cool but half those fights were outside of the UFC. Belfort definitely had a nice resurgence. Werdum lost a couple fights but he was never a journeyman. Lawler actually won and defended his belt. In my book, it’s the best comeback in the UFC.

This isn't a P4P thread, it's about the Welterweight Division. You hate GSP so much you're not even thinking rationally.

Gsp has more top 3 wins (10) than anyone but Hughes has top 10......

How is this a misleading thread ?

TS never mentioned GSP as the GOAT, and has created a similar thread for the LW champions. My guess is MW is next

hmmm...yeah..but some potential misleadin´situations here, especially those related to the transitional era from OW to Div. belts.. Ronin´s or Da Croatian Sedation´s legacy have to be assessed separately...

For instance, Patino is not considered a quality win, but he was still considered legit in the Vale Tudo scene & had mainly lost to bigger Pelé at that point...

Yeah, FightMatrix had Patino ranked in the top ten at Middleweight at that time, which is why he wasn't counted on Miletich's resume since this is about their Welterweight rankings.
