All a union does is extract more for everyone because leverage organized labor can bare on an organization. Like NFL players get 55% of gross NFL revenue which I bet UFC fighters of all stripes would love to see 55%. How it's split is still usually left to the companies.

Better question is how does a union form without employees. These are all independent contractors and not protected by any organized labor laws.

So long as the UFC keeps them happy, the union won't do squat.

This is a contentious point and many dispute the classification. The contracts they are required to sign have many provisions of an employment contract and are - according to some - unfairly classified as independent contractors.

You can organize in that situation - as I type this, Uber and Lyft drivers are making strides to organize, and are all 1099 contractors. In the state of New York they've already struck a middle ground.

There not the first union or association in mma.

Even with a union though i dont think it would overally change all that much.They already have health insurance,there is only so much money the new comers and middle runners will earn.It will basically just stop all the bs like your fired if u dont sign ur likeness away for free

but thats huge. it may even lead to allowing the fighters to fight with multiple promotions.
