Maybe the UFC needs to keep three rankings on each fighter. One for their normal weight class and one for the one under and over it for those time when they want to jump the line. Might help make sense for everyone when fights like Chael - Jones and Aldo - Pettis come up. :icon_chee

I have been wondering what ranking they were going to wear for their title fights.

How are you going to rank someone in a division they've never fought in? There is no frame of reference for how good they are.

Dana White said they'd make the fights people want to see regardless of the rankings

Rankings in MMA are useless and they mean nothing. No matter what the context

If stupid belts keep us from seeing the best matchups, such as pettis vs Aldo, then I say do away with them.

My point exactly. Cause everyone seems to think Pettis is much more deserving of this than any of the other guys he's jumping line on. Chael jumping straight into a figh with Jones, Diaz into a fight with GSP although at least Diaz is in the same weight class as GSP.

They shouldn't have created UFC rankings then.

Why not? You can have rankings to give a general idea but not have to follow them perfectly. Why do mma fans want the sport to be so rigid?

Rigidity adds legitimacy. Unless the UFC wants rigidity, in which case it detracts from legitimacy.

This is as legitimate as it's gonna get. If you're waiting for the day mma is ran like other sports, it's not gonna happen. Prize fighting is always gonna be about making good fights but putting a priority on fights that sell more. It's never gonna change. That's what this sport is. Prize fighting. Selling fights.

Besides, why would you not want to watch the better fight?

Rankings are to give people a general idea of who's were in the division. Like many people have already said in this post, they don't have to be followed perfectly. Seriously, does anyone think Mendes, Lamas or Korean Zombie have a better chance of beating Aldo than Pettis? I really doubt it.

The Pettis fight will be nice to see.

But fighting in a bracked and jumping do to an insta titleshot is stupid.
Don't belive me? We almost had a Rashad/Silva fight for no reason.

Matchmaking is bad, REAL bad.

I like knowing that guys who have worked their butts off are getting the shots they've earned and I'm willing to wait on "super-fights" if it means someone gets the shot they have been striving for.
