Stipe clearly has the best resume. All of his top10 wins are also top5 wins.

If you take fighter age and wear and tear into account most of those guys were past their best by several years.

I'm not sure how you got different numbers. I think we used the same method but I have a few fighters with different numbers. Werdum has 7 top 10 wins, Overeem was ranked 6th when he lost to Werdum.

https://www.fightmatrix.com/histori...ated-historical-rankings/?Issue=66&Division=1

Fedor has 13 top 10 wins, you forgot Babalu Sobral who was ranked 7th.

Ngannou should be added to this list.

#7 Arlovski
#2 Overeem
#3 Blaydes

It’s a dumb narrative that has been dubunked a million times. No one can be good in their 30’s because all the HW Pride stars got their ass kicked at that age. And it couldn’t been because of their skill sets, it must’ve been because of their age.

Well that’s not true. Look at every other division. Look at the champs in every division. Everyone is well into their 30’s and are better than they ever were before.

FLW- Figgy will be 33 in few weeks
BW- Yan is the youngest champ at 27
FW- Volkanovski is 32
LW- Khabib is 32
WW- Usman is 33
MW- Izzy is 31
LHW- Jan is 37
HW- Stipe is 38

Average age for a UFC champ is 33 years.

Even the lighter weight classes have become much older, because you need time to develop elite skills. Look at LW:

Khabib- 32
Gaethje- 32
Poirier- 31
Tony- 36
Conor- 32
Hooker- 30
Oliviera- 31
RDA- 36
Felder-36
Ferreira- 35
Iaquinta- 33

It’s only a Pride fan excuse, because they can’t cope with reality.

Most of the guys Stipe beat were closer to 40 and on the verge of retirement and were all much better fighters five years earlier if you're being objective.

I'll break it down for you.

  • #5 Mark Hunt - 40 years old, 70 pro fights wear and tear, coming off a KO loss into the Stipe fight at the tail end of his career.
  • #3 Andrei Arlovski - Arlovskis win streak was over a bunch of guys who very soon after retired or never won a fight again, prime Arlovski was his 2009 run not the shell Stipe faced.
  • #1 Fabricio Werdum - 40 years old and turned up out of shape and ran straight at Stipes fist, already retired once now
  • #3 Alistair Overeem - 40 years old, 20 years on the game, been KOd 15 times between K1 and MMA, more than anyone else in high level MMA, should already have retired for his own health
  • #5 Junior dos Santos - come on, JDS was shot, not been the same fighter since the Cain fights years before and he still got the best of Stipe the first time round.
  • #2 Francis Ngannou - hungry beast, great win
  • #1 Daniel Cormier - despite being the wrong side of 40 DC looked great
  • #2 Daniel Cormier - you can see why DC had already retired once and age had caught up to him.

#3 Alistair Overeem - 40 years old, 20 years on the game, been KOd 15 times between K1 and MMA, more than anyone else in high level MMA, should already have retired for his own health
He was 36 and had some very good wins after that.

JDS was 33 FFS and not shot by any mean... this is a myth.

No Alistair Overeem??
Strikeforce HW champ.

JDS was still a pretty good in the first Stipe fight but he had declined a lot since his fights with Cain. Age alone isn't a good indicator of someone's prime. JDS took a career's worth of strikes in his 2nd and 3rd fight with Cain and drastically declined after those fights.

I don't even discuss P4P, so I'm certainly not going to reference their "rankings".

Overweem's loss to Werdum was at Openweight, not Heavyweight.
Sobral's loss to Fedor was at Openweight, not Heavyweight.

Ngannou should be added to this list.
No Alistair Overeem??
Strikeforce HW champ.
See the title of the thread for why those two fighters aren't listed.

JDS hasn't been the same ever since the Velasquez fights, it has nothing to do with his age.

I still think both of those should count, Overeem and Werdum both weighed over 205 same for Sobral and Fedor. IMO open weight fights should still count if both fighters weigh in as HWs.

Good luck trying to find the weight of fighters for dozens of fights going as far back as the early 90's.

Yeah you can't do that for a lot of them but for those two I mentioned it's not hard to find.
