UFC not lacking stars anymore (Jones, Silva, GSP, Lesnar OUT)(McGregor, Ronda IN)

as soon as McGregor and Ronda take a loss their star power plummets

Silva still has drawing power after losing to Chris twice

GSP would still have drawing power if he had lost to Hendricks and kept fighting

Jones will still have drawing power when he comes back and would even if he loses the rematch to Cormier

Lesnar the biggest draw ever is gone, then GSP is gone (probably the second biggest), then Silva is gone and finally Jon Jones. Last two were not know by his draw but were DOMINANT CHAMPIONS ON HEAVY DIVISIONS. Thats always important, and obviously sell a lot of PPV too...

When UFC lost those big draws, the typical thread "UFC is dying..." multiplied even more, and is not hard to understand, UFC was really strugling with PPV. Everyone was saying: The gold era of the MMA has gone, we never ever gona have stars and draws like that (Jones, Silva, GSP, Lesnar)

but now we have:

- Conor McGregor. Confirmed he is a HUGE draw and he is still not even the real champion ! McGregor vs Aldo is still to come, and huge PPV sells. And some more, he is from a light division when UFC never sells big amount of PPV. He is like rising a division normally doesnt sell very much.

- Ronda Rousey, she is not proven to be an amazing draw but extremely popular among casual and women, that's audience no one on UFC now or before could reach, if UFC move his marketing department and could make those people pay for a PPV... HOLY SHIT. That could be out of this earth level of PPV sales. POTENTIAL BIGGEST DRAW.

- TJ Dillashaw... please dont laugh here. His style of fighting is very appealing and he seems to get more dominant every time he fights. For sure he COULD surpass the regular PPV sell rate in THAT division. Remember light divisions always sell poor compared to heavier.

AND !!!... Jon Jones can come back, Silva for sure will come back. GSP we never know.

So, we can say UFC is doing pretty good right now. When the big four were gone this seemed the apocalypse, but right now you can say UFC is not dying, is pretty healthy.

Jones was a dynamic fighter, but was he ever really a "star"?

Ronda/Conor are actually bigger than GSP/Silva. Ronda in particular is becoming a household name. Those other two, while great fighters, were just huge names in the MMA circle.

Ronda/Conor Mc are nowhere near GSP/Silva at their height who had whole large countries behind them. People casually support Ronda but GSP's fans during his day worshipped him. Conor is a flash in the pan, Silva was dominant for years. You're just dazzled by the bright lights currently on Ronda/Conor Mc. You're like a deer in headlights.

As for TS, how sad is it that you believe a female fighter and a FW can carry the torch for an MMA organization? The UFC is pushing them hard and spending millions to promote them but they hardly represent the rest of MMA or its fanbase.

2 events back to back that did 900k. This has been a good year for the UFC... for the most part.

I think cruz would be a star if he trash talks every opponent. There's mcg, ronda, and return of jones.

really ?

McGregor is not even the absolute champion and sell 1M PPV against an opponent was changed last minute. After HOW MANY fights GSP could sell that amount of PPV ??? And GSP was WELTER, McGregor is a featherweight, much difficult to be a draw in that division.

And Ronda is the most mainstream fighter in UFC history. Anderson Silva was a dominant champion, with record championship defenses and still wasnt a big draw, he needed CHAEL SONNEN to become a real draw.

Ya really. How long was GSP on top of the game and how many PPVs did he headline? Conor Mc has been a draw less than a year, headlined 2 FNs and 1 PPV card. GSP has sponsors like Gatorade and UnderArmour. Conor Mc has Game of War and Rebox. Get back to me in 5 years if Conor Mc is still relevant like GSP was for 7-8 years.

Ronda has been relevant for about 3 years and does have a lot of casual support. Anderson was dominant for 7 years and is a hero in his country. Ronda is a hero to little girls. PPV numbers don't mean shit because they don't do PPV in Brazil.

Even though it is ridiculous at first thought... you're forgetting Michael Bisping.

Dude has enormous drawing power for some reason

how can McGregor be a draw for more time if he wasnt even in UFC before ! xD

An Anderson Silva become a draw only after CHAEL SONNEN, before he was not

I knew you'd come back with that. The point is that the UFC is not making up for the loss of GSP/Silva/Brock with Conor/Ronda/Jones. If Conor/Ronda are still relevant and drawing fans in 3 years then that's a different story.

Not really sold on Dillashaw yet. I absolutely despise the guy and his entire team, but he drew mad numbers on his time slot. It will be interesting to see if he can break the little guy mold and pull in good buys on his own.

Jones will be back next year as well

I'll give you Conor and Ronda and even JBJ if/when he comes back. But no way with Dillashaw. I like him, but I don't think he has any drawing power...I actually think Werdum has a chance to be up there, he is very likable and great at trolling. Also, if Fedor signs he is immediately in the mix.

Not Fedor nor Werdum. They cannot catch the attention of the layman.

McGregor did not pulled in one million buys. You are delusional and naive.

You do not understand the basic concept of one attracting the mainstream.

No one in MMA except Rousey and maybe Jon Jones can do that.

McGregor can do it too but not at the moment yet.
