There are many factors are play going into the fight. First and foremost is the result of the title clash between No. 1-ranked Cruz and No. 7-ranked Garbrandt. If the challenger Garbrandt were to take the belt, he’s already promised an immediate rematch to Cruz. If “The Dominator” were to retain, he has already revealed a lack of interest in fighting Dillashaw a second time after winning the belt from him via a debatable split decision at UFC Fight Night 81 in January.

Moreover, any fight involving Lineker is deemed worthy of pause due to the Brazilian’s extensive history of missing weight. He’s already come in over on five separate occasions during his UFC tenure and is unlikely to be trusted for a title fight until he can consistently display professionalism when it comes to weight cutting.

Although Dillashaw vs. Lineker seems to have all the ingredients for a No. 1 contender fight, Shelby also noted there are other names in the division who come into play when discussing which person will fight for the belt next.

“(Jimmie) Rivera has been outstanding; you got (Bryan) Caraway who is still up there in the top-six – you got Dodson,” Shelby said. “There’s so many guys, and there’s guys coming up breaking into the top 10. I’m so happy with the division right now.”

    Thoughts?

If TJ wins, he deserves it. If Lineker wins, ufc will probably be hesitant because of the potential weight miss.

Also, if Cody vs Cruz is a barn burner they will probably go for an immediate rematch. Dillashaw would probably attempt suicide at that point.

If Cody wins and TJ wins (or both lose) you gotta book them against each other. It makes too much sense since we never got Uriah vs TJ.

If Cruz wins, yeah I could see them giving Dillashaw the shaft again.

Dillashaw vs Lineker deserves it way more than Rivera vs Caraway winner

TJ lost in a super close fight, if TJ wins no way in the world he didnt deserve title shot

Cruz doesn't want the TJ rematch; it's obvious. He's going to petition hard for a superfight at 145 or try meeting Frankie Edgar at a catchweight.

    This is bullshit.

Cruz/Faber and Cruz/Cody are bullshit title fights, Faber shouldn't have been anywhere near the title picture and Cody has never even fought a top 5 opponent never mind beat one.

Now you have them talking about fucking Jimmie Rivera, he's a good prospect with a great record but for fuck sake his only good win is a decision over a 37 year old Faber.

I think it's the UFC's way of thanking TJ for his MMAAA involvement should he not get the shot if he beats Lineker. He should be the clear choice not to mention Cruz should want the rematch to prove he's better by not just having an SD and having a clear victory.

Well if Cody has promised he'd rematch cruz then I guess that's final. TJ has to understand that a promise is a promise and the UFC doesn't have the authority to overrule a promise!

    This is getting fucking ludicrous

I agree with that, however, if Lineker can not be trusted to make weight in his division, then he shouldn't be matched against anyone in the top 5. If a fighter can not move forward with a win because of his lack of professionalism, then he should be fighting guys outside of the top 10 only.

The UFC is so inconsistent. Garbrandt makes a complete ass of himself to get this title shot. He tried to fight Cruz backstage while Cruz was getting ready for television. But Bader does the same thing and can't get a title shot. Even when there is literally no one else at that time who was coming off of a win.
