He's liked and not liked by many. He's a bully, a trash talker, a get-in-your-face, wild, and lunatic kinda guy - and that is exactly what the featherweight division needs right now. Aldo is an exciting fighter. He's probably the best p4p fighter right now standing next to Jones toe to toe for that label. He's wiped out the best in the division already, but many of his fights were never talked about the way people talk about Jones/Cormier, Spider/Weidman, GSP/Penn, etc.
Mendes, Lamas, Edgar, all these guys are the best of the best, but they lack something out of their comfort zone, and that's to play the villain or at least a fighter that talks and knows that the fight business is more than just fighting.
If UFC's featherweight division isn't this exciting right now, Bellator can jump right on that opportunity and hype up their guys (ok maybe I exaggerated there). McGregor sees that his division has a lot of talent, but not as entertaining as the other divisions. He's got potential to make more money than Aldo just because he knows how to be part of the business. Very entertaining guy he is.
