All you hear is record low ratings for free shows and mediocre PPV buys now a days.

Dana White was recorded saying that he wants to keep his athletes underpaid because it keeps them hungry and subservient to him.

Conor beat the game. He is set for life and no longer needs the UFC.

The UFC is in desperate need of big draws at this point, which is why they're actively going after Brock again. Dana is going to have to acknowledge the fact that he can't nickel and dime Conor like he can with everyone else. They'll have to open up the check book and pay him his true worth.

I don't need him. I will still enjoy MMA just as much or more.

Your title should read - The UFC thinks they need Conor, but they really don't..

Connor is flying economy already. Soon enough he will be on his knees kissing Dana's shoes and beg for a fight.

it's symbiotic. either they both make money together from him fighting, or they don't.
  1. if he wants to fight, UFC will have him fight, and they'll both make money.
  2. if he doesn't want to fight, UFC will move forward, and they both won't make money from Conor fighting.
it's not complicated, TS. stop trying to complicate it.

The question is, is it worth the money to give up control of your product?

Or do you try to move on without him and make less money on your own terms.

Also, it's risky, because one more loss, to a legit LW contender and IMO, it all come crumbling down....Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Conor could go to Bellator and make millions

As if Bellator would be able to outbid the UFC on their biggest draw. Also good luck selling Conor vs Primus or Freire.

The funny things is everyone saying they don't care, cared enough to come into the thread to say that. The same way they will care enough to tune into watch Conor fight.
Conor could go to Bellator and it would sell a million PPVs. No one else in the UFC can currently cross that. Hell 90% of the roster can't even do half of what Conor does.

How about Conor vs Chandler?

FACT: The UFC needs Conor more than Conor needs the UFC

someone should keep a log of how many times an OP reads 'FACT' and how many times it actually is one. probably less than 10%.

No one fighter is bigger than the organization.

What you are saying about Connor was said about:
.Royce;
.Tito;
.Chuck;
.Mark Kerr;
.Mark Coleen;
.Dan Severn;
.etc

The UFC bent its spine to get that Conor money, it doesn't know what it is anymore.

If Conor could get out of his UFC contract, he wouldn't go to Bellator but co-promote with them or some boxing promotion. Would be interesting to see if there would be a mass exodus of lightweight fighters from the UFC just following the money.

Prior to WME-IMG buying the UFC, your statements would be correct. Fertittas made hundreds of millions or more off their UFC purchase, the money was flowing in at a good rate, so yeah, if their Superstars didn't fight, they make a little less money, no biggie, everyone is still rich.

However, WME-IMG bought the UFC for $4 billion, they have a lot of investors who expect returns. So, if they don't make the same amount or more, MORE heads will roll from executives to staff to fighters.

If Conor doesn't fight, he still has tens of millions at least, with potential to make more (shit, idiots buy PPV to see him talk?), he could eventually box, maybe go to Bellator after waiting period/lawsuits. UFC, on the other hand, has few bankable stars so they need Conor or else people will get fired, deals with Fox will not garner as much, etc.
