The whole event cancellation just didn't sit right with me from the start.

UFC hates HATES cancelling an event and will do everything in their power to save it - but not this time.

The timing was just around the time when the Phillipines and US relations were at an all time low - my thoughts are they asked Penn to take one for the team, pull out injured and give them a justifiable reason to pull the card for security and safety reasons hence no attempts to find a replacement abd every fighter getting their fight purse no questions asked.

When Jones pulled out and event was cancelled the fighters on the card were not afforded such a luxury instead Jones was thrown under the bus.

Just my own take on the situation

They wanted to test the entire ufc including back room staff and are shooting drug addicts and dealers by order of El presidente.

Edit: to be honest they never should have made the event in the first place.

Sorry, kinda missed the point i guess after giving it a second read. Maybe they did ask Penn to do them a solid. Him of all people would probably do that. But again it was too big a risk to have even have bothered with in the first place, even if trying to venture into new markets. The card was one of the flimsiest I've ever seen so it was easy to drop it, I imagine the entire cards pay out was one of the lowest of all time too, so covering that compared to an actual ufc numbered card was easy, just the last time they had an easy fall guy for it.

Maybe they knew there was a big question mark hanging over the event. And put on a shit card just so they had an easy way out should shit hit the proverbial fan. It was a safe play.

They've already cancelled two cards before. It's just getting easier for them. And to pay the fighters their show would just be them realizing how dumb it is for them to get ready and not be allowed to fight for no fault of their own.

Im still pretty convinced it is the political climate in Phillipines that caused the decision to cancel I dont believe Penn was injured to the point of pulling a card
