We all know UFC tries to portray their brand with this "chiseled fighter image" throughout the years and frowned on guys that looked like total slobs such as Roy Nelson simply because they didn't want to be laughed at

We all know they wanted Nagonou to be champ cause of his physique but now they have a fatter version of LHW Cornier as their champ

I think an element of the UFC brand since the beginning has been about not judging a book by it's cover. Royce wasn't a slob but he was the normal looking guy who beat the juiced to the gills pancrase champ.

Or roy nelson, or hunt, or tank were all fan favorites.

MMA pretty much dispels the myth that bulky gym bros are tough. They are strong but all them muscles gonna make ya gas. Don't stand behind them squatting either. Preworkout + squats not a good combo, but I'm off on a tangent so I digress.

There's a weird part of the fanbase fascinated with really big muscly guys that is mad. I've argued with so many people for years, some actually knowledgeable fans that would swear HW is some whole different ballgame than LHW but HW is in fact pretty terrible, worse than it ever was. It's been proven over and over again by now. Just because some really good LHW's want to be an in shape athletes doesn't mean their scared to eat more food and fight sloppy Hw's.

He didn’t rally against him because he was fat, he criticized Roy because Roy wasn’t a company guy and did his own thing. As a result he would catch shit from Dana, often in the form of talking shit about his weight.

DC is a company guy.

Dana has also embraced DC as one of his favorite fighters for a long time and couldn't have heaped more praise on him in the post fight presser -- of course its dana and he is a promoter and whatever he says when a camera is rolling is promoting.

I think you are assuming the whole Dana/UFC doesn't like pudgy champ thing without evidence to the fact. Dana doesn't like Roy Nelson. That doesn't mean he doesn't like pudgy fighters. Dana also doesn't like Tito or Jon and even has issues with Randy Couture. That's Dana, not some UFC anti pudge bias.

If anything the UFC does a lot of promotion for dad bod/fat fighters because fans tune in for that stuff.

Roy Nelson had a generally unkept appearance and an unprofessional attitude that seemed to go hand-in-hand (by Dana's metric). That was why he wasn't well-liked there.
