The UFC has its problems, but one stands out as more serious and scary than the rest: Fewer and fewer people are interested in what it’s selling.

Even as UFC president Dana White touts his company’s record profitability in 2017, there’s no getting around the basic fact that the company isn’t doing well in the medium and long term. By several different metrics, the UFC’s audience is declining. Moreover, if the ubiquitous commercials for male vitality products like Nugenix during broadcasts weren’t a big enough clue, the audience that remains is aging out of the coveted youth demographic that the promotion used to sell itself to advertisers for so long. Anecdotally, fan enthusiasm seems to be at a low ebb. But every actual metric suggests that things are even worse than they feel.

That's because they made a circus out of a sport. Everyone is cherry picking their fights, rankings don't mean shit anymore (a 1-2 fighter fighting for a title?), so people are just fed up with shit.
 
Put more effort into making stars. They will pick and choose the odd fighter to push (Rousey, McGregor, Ngannou, etc) but they are few and far between.

Rose, Joanna, Khabib, Max, DJ, Stipe, DC and many more have appealing personalities that could be better highlighted.

Because UFC isn't even seen as a legitimate sport anymore. Your mouth is more respected than your skills.

They are promoting those others,but you cant force an audience to care about stipe and max as much as they do mcgregor. The fans choose,and the ufc hitches their wagon to who the fans choose. Conor and rousey were gonna become stars with or without the ufcs help.

This isn't it at all lol. They lack marketable fighters right now. That's it. These fighters outside of Conor and Brock aren't selling fights. Period.
 
It's a niche sport, a niche market. It was never going to stay mainstream.
And now they don't have too many active stars.

Meh. The hardcores pretend MMA is not pro wrestling. But it is, just with real outcomes.

Pro wrestling at its most popular is driven by stars. Always has been.

The ufc has no stars. So no one gives a shit about the fights. Go back and watch a card from 07-10. Likely will be able to recognize every guy. Now i might recognize a few fights, but the rest i really have no idea so why do i care who wins? And its not like they promote these guys well ( or at all)

It’s relatively simple really.
 
The reason the UFC surged in popularity was the matchmaking. Rankings matter, contenders had to earn title shots, and cards were stacked. Now it's a complete shit show, and soon will be just like boxing ... random fights that don't make much sense, but the fighters want to get paid and the UFC just wants blockbuster numbers from casual fans, soon it will be all the way down to 1 fight per card with 1 big name fighter vs. whoever...and a mixed bag of randoms for the undercard.
 
It's not seen as legitimate sport anymore when guys off losses get title shots, champs don't fight, undefeated fighters get stepped over, etc. It's a clown show worse than boxing ever was.

You can't make stars, stars make themselves, who else could they have pushed that could have been a big star but wasn't due to lack of push?

Of course they can make stars. Its literally danas job as the promoter to do so...
