iirc in the 2nd fight with Gus, Jones was still pulsing but they gave Gus the opportunity to pull out to which he declined.....

I think it's dedicating your whole life to something and believing in yourself and that you are the best in the world then getting in there with a cokehead who didn't even train properly who makes you look and feel like an amateur. That has to be so demoralizing
In the case of Santos, he came so close to beating him but left so damaged that he was deflated and felt like it was all for nothing I assume. Plus double knee surgery is a career killer
