Media UFC Free Fight: Dustin Poirier vs Max Holloway 2

Hells yeah! This was a great fight. I rarely re-watch fights but I did re-watch this one a while back and it was much more competitive than I remembered based on the first viewing. Fantastic performance by Dustin but I'll also give tons of credit to Max for his efforts.

This fight showed me that Max's long narrow body isn't suited for LW...

DP showing the blueprint to beat Max 2.0 before it was in fashion.

Dustin has so many great fights it's absolutely bananas.

Fought Max and Alvarez twice, Pettis, and Gaethje. All have held the belt. Fought CDF in his return to 155. Had wars with KZ and Prime Cub Swanson at 145. The list just goes on.

Agree. This is one of those fights who's always worth re-watching from time to time. It was action packed

I just re-watched this yesterday for the first time. Watching it live I thought Dustin won at least 4 rounds. After a re-watch I think Dustin won rounds 1,2, Max 3,4 and 5 was really close. All the blood coming out of Max threw me off the first time.

You can tell Dustin had developed some muscle and significant size at 155. Just look at his back. I was surprised when he found his rhythm early and tagged Max often times in the first. You can tell he's on the top of his game

Watching it live back then, I can't remember how I scored the rounds but I'm convinced that Dustin had it and I just can't see him losing that one.

Max was a literal punching bag, took so much damage. Dustin's striking actually seems quite limited, those telegraphed hooks have no chance of worrying Conor.

As a Max fan this was painful to watch, but I think he would do fine at lw if he took some time to bulk up.

I still think he'd be fine at LW if he committed to it. He went up on one months notice and took 2 rounds from one of the best Lightweights in the world. Many lightweights have done far worse against Dustin.

The knee that split max open likely won Dustin the fight. He was losing that entire round, but then he stole it by splitting max open with a knee and landing a solid combo which out weighed all of Max's work in the previous four minutes of the round.

Interestingly enough, I can see a similar scenario in Max's next fight where he's outpointing kattar for four minutes of a round, but then kattar lands a few bombs and really takes it to max in the last minute and steals rounds like that.
