Am I the only one wondering why the UFC keeps putting Australians on the Auckland card? Obviously Australia is geographically close, hence less travel costs to get all the fighters to NZ.

I think the UFC is making a mistake though; as a New Zealander who will be attending the event I'm not overly excited about seeing a bunch of Australians fight.

Surely the UFC would have done some research and realised that New Zealander's usually aren't the biggest fans of Australians?

This is like when the UFC goes to Singapore and Macau and ppl are wondering why they fill the cards with Japanese and Korean fighters.

Pretty sure Whittaker is a bonafide Mozzie (Maori Aussie).

He's got the Aussie Southern Cross tattoo and accent to go with it.

Kiwi heritage bit we can't claim them all.

Oh totally, if it was a card full of Kiwis it would be terrible.

A few more locals against Americans would be nice, shame Hunto isn't there.

Looking like a decidedly fight pass card though, I'll be in Europe while it's on anyway.

Ya they should bring in some cans from New Zealand to fight, just because they are from there.

Great logic. That's why Australia tries to claim every single New Zealand success as their own

There is hardly any New Zealanders that fight. The best approach is to get the biggest name fighters that they can. Realistically the only fighter from Aus/NZ that I would be interested in watching fight is Hunt.

More like denying anything to do with New Zealand due to embarrassment of association.

That's not my point at all. My point is that a card in NZ full of Australians isn't the best strategy. Obviously there isn't enough talent from NZ to fill the card up, so why not use fighters from all over the world instead of just defaulting to Australians?

NZ and Australia have a history of rubbing each other the wrong way. There's a popular saying in NZ when referring to sports: "I support two teams: New Zealand, and anyone facing Australia."
