to sign Cristine Cyborg. Can someone explain to me why? She has beaten everyone she's faced. These days it appears that all atheles are using something that isn't on a band list today but I"m sure it will be tommarrow. As a fan of fighters I'm just trying to understand why the UFC doesn't want to sign her? They had no problem signing Gina who also was a 145?

gina never fought in the ufc tho women's 145 division is so thin it makes the heavyweight decision look stacked by comparison

Apparently there's not any 145 pounders in women's MMA.

But if Dana was to announce a 145 division, you bet there suddenly would be a shitload popping up.

What the fuck are you talking about? Not only did the UFC never sign Gina Carano, they DID sign Cyborg. The ball has been in her court for years, she finally decided that she isn’t interested in fighting at 135. The opportunity is still there, it’s on her.

If Cyborg had Gina Carano looks she would've been signed and fighting in her own weight class way before Rousey got signed. Dana only wants women that have a certain look that is appealing. If Dana and the UFC were actually interested in signing the "best fighters in the world" Cyborg would've been the first.

Have you ever looked at a pic of Cyborg at 145lbs? If she did make it to 135 she would be a skeleton or dead. Looking at her last weighin pic their no fuk'in way she could ever make 135.

I hope not, that division is really really shallow

Did I say she should or could? I was simply answering TSs question, that apparently he didn’t put much research into.

The UFC has gone far and beyond for Cyborg. They pay her salary in Invicta with the understanding that if she gets to 135 she fights in the UFC.

Who have they ever done anything like that for???

I do believe now that WMMA has become more popular/draw it might be time for the UFC to do a 145 division in 2017. I'm sure there is a lot more in the pipe line today than 2 years ago. Most athletic girls that are over 5'8" are going to weigh more in that 145 area. With every inch taller add another 5lbs or so. Even Holly is big for 135. I won't doubt it if she moved up to 145 if she had the chance.

Because they want a pretty CGI movie star who will be on all the TV shows...like Ronda

I find it amazing that Invicta has a 145 division but the UFC doesn't. The 134 division didn't exsist til it was created.

They tried to sign here and didn't. I'm only stating that the other divisions didn't exsist til they were created.

  1. She tested positive for steroids in Strikeforce.
  2. Poor management. She was managed by Tito Ortiz for a while who destroyed the negotiation process. Also Dana, Joe Rogan and UFC all said some nasty things about Cyborg and as a result she's hesitant to sign. Now she's under some other weird management that doesn't understand business and apparently neither does she.
  3. There's no weight class for her and she's hesitant to drop in weight.
Ultimately I think we will end up seeing Cyborg drop to 135 and fight in UFC. IMO she's #1 P4P womens champ and no one is even close. UFC were hyping RR like she was Tyson but it's actually Cyborg that is like that: total physical specimen, technical and intimidating presence.

Please, if McGregor whose a 5'8" male can fight at 145, Cyborg can make 135.

A lot of her weight is muscle which is pretty easy to lose.

She was signed to UFC, she is the one who requested to be released. UFC isnt adding a FW div, they shouldnt, last thing UFC needs is a horrible div like womens FW with literally nobody in it.

She is a foreigner, not exactly attractive, and is far and away the best fighter in female mma. Her style is so brutal that I don't know if most fans would be comfortable watching her fight the likes of Tate, Holly, Rose, etc. I remember she beat some of her Strikeforce opponents so bad that the live audience was actually booing. She couldn't be less marketable for the UFC.

Why was she signed to the UFC then?
