UFC: Does the Promotion Finally See What It Has in Cris Cyborg?

Of course, they do----look what she did to poor Gina a handful of years ago.It looked like a man fighting a woman.
They just had their proverbial noses so far up miss rousey's crapper that nothing else mattered in the "x" side of things but Ronda and whos arm she was taking home next.

If Ronda should come back and she does reclaim title from Nunes then a Ronda -Cyborg fight is as big as ever ....,,even with her loss to Holly.

She won't be a star.

1) She's unattractive
2) She's a she and WMMA stinks
3) She barely speaks English

Yep, thats exactly what's going to happen; first Ronda take back her title and then she will defend it against bantamweight contenders! If Cyborg want to fight Ronda then she must line up in the bantamweight division like Holly, Valentina and everybody else.

I think the UFC now, more than ever, is totally confused with what to do with Cyborg.

She's popular in Brazil but they seem unsure with how to use her outside of Brazil. None of the other big names in WMMA are interested in a catchweight fight with her and there just isn't enough viable 145 pound fighters to build a division around.

For now, it seems like they are just going to call her when they need some star power and a squash match for a Brazil card.

The UFC should make a 145 division so she can stop bitching. It would be good for fans & casuals because with Cyborg, you are GUARANTEED a 1st round KO, every time.

Exactly what Dana said he was planning on doing right before Cybro ran away to Invicta and after she refused to fight Ronda at 135 lbs. She was still under contract with the UFC and he said he wanted to still keep her around to give her fights in Invicta if a squash match turned up. Of course she would have been under the UFC's new drug testing at the time so she said no fuckin way, I want out of the contract.

MMA fans are more knowledgeable than they used to be. Casuals would view her as a juiced up woman and the diehards are over her squash matches and want to see her finally challenged.

Never in the history of MMA has a promotion been so reluctant to accept a contracted fighter’s stardom as the UFC was to accept that of Cris “Cyborg” Justino.

Obsessively selling the sport—both the male and female wings—as Ronda Rousey’s took plenty of time and money, and until she was blasted into obscurity by a Holly Holm head kick in November 2015, there was no room for anyone else.

Now, with Rousey gone for the better part of a year and with no return in sight, and with the bantamweight division she once ruled left in a state of flux, the UFC has been forced to accept that Rousey’s greatest foil might be the best female attraction it has got going.

So it goes Cyborg is getting another UFC fight, and this time, she’s a headliner. If nothing else, the sport makes strange bedfellows sometimes.

When Rousey ruled the roost, Cyborg was forced to the margins as an afterthought. She was afraid to come to bantamweight. She didn’t deserve a title shot because she was a PED user. She was Wanderlei Silva in a dress.

People want to see me fight in the @UFC but the only girls who want to fight me fight at 145. I'm the most ducked fighter in wmma history

Anything the UFC and its golden goose could concoct to downplay Cyborg as a legitimate threat—and make no mistake, she always was a legitimate threat to Rousey—was done, and it was done without morals or scruples or any particular degree of tact.

Even the most ardent pro-UFC folks couldn’t support the president, Dana White, slandering a female fighter for her appearance, and top Rousey boosters couldn’t honestly say they thought Cyborg would be a cakewalk if they’d ever seen her fight.

The Brazilian is a terror in the most complimentary sense of the word. She’s graceful in her barbarity, a perpetual masterclass of technique backed up by a stopping power that almost no one in the sport can match. She’s animalistic in how she stalks prey and finishes with swift, vicious flurries. It’s a gift; it’s beautiful to the eye that’s looking around the busted noses and bleeding faces it produces.

So with Rousey more Hollywood than haymakers, the UFC has given Justino a shot. She showed up in Brazil at a UFC event, made 140 pounds and made hamburger meat out of Leslie Smith in a minute flat.

People loved it.

She was instantly a hero in her homeland, producing Octagon thrills the nation hasn’t felt since the days of a TRT-infused Vitor Belfort punting heads into the Amazon like so many soccer balls lost at a Flamengo training session.

Now she’s going back, and she’s bringing a headliner’s hell with her.

The UFC recently announced she’d be the marquee name at UFC Fight Night 95 in Brasilia in September, the type of thing that’s bound to get her country worked into a lather. Anyone who likes short main events that are rich with carnage are probably happy too, as poor Lina Lansberg is the UFC debutant drawing the assignment as Cyborg’s sacrifice. Lansberg’s 6-1 against people you’ve never heard of, and unless she is made of cast iron, you can’t like her chances.

It leads one to the conclusion that the UFC finally, in spite of itself, may understand what it has in Cris Cyborg.

She’s among the most entertaining fighters in MMA, male or female, and she has the same aura of invincibility Rousey did—only it’s been maintained for twice as long. She can carry a card and people would watch all over the world, plus she bolsters a Brazilian market that’s been flagging and can’t possibly be looking up given the publicity surrounding the Rio Olympics.

It’s a good look for the UFC and for Justino. She can be the star the promotion always wanted, even if it didn’t want to acknowledge it had her.

FINALLY Cyborg is starting to get the recognition she deserves. Can't wait till UFC Brasilia! Ronda WK squad triggered in 3 - 2 - 1...

Get over your she/male crush. Cyborg has no weigh division in the UFC. She can only fight cans. Holm turned down the fight against Cyborg at 140/145. I personally think the UFC should cut her if she cannot make 135. What is the point of her fights exactly?

She eats more pizza while they diet.

Gina is 5'8" Rouseys 5'7" and Holms 5'9"
They could easily meet Cyborg at Cathweight but they refuse even that.

Holm's camp straight out said they not interested in Borg fight.
They is ducks.

And yet somehow...nobody cares.

Lol at "She’s graceful in her barbarity, a perpetual masterclass of technique"...

Ronda did say it, and demanded proper drug testing. Cyborg ran from that.

Nope, again, the drug testing wasn't the issue, Ronda was still demanding the fight at 135. That was the issue. Re read your own sources.

It's been about making money, and maintaining a certain level of legitimacy, but only after making money first and altime always. Now that the main cash cows are no longer bringing in a ton of money as champions, it makes financial sense to start bringing in would-be threats to said cash cows (Rousey, then Holm, now Tate, since the champion is now a lot less marketable than the aforementioned) since now we've got a less-marketable fighter in Cyborg who, upon becoming a champion, will not necessarily reduce numbers below what they will already be.

If any of the 3 previous big stars of the WMMA 135lb division become champion again and start bringing in more numbers, you can bet all other less-marketable fighters will take a backseat.

The shameless lying is just head-exploding.

Yes, 135ers don't want to fight you when you weigh in at 145 and come to the ring at 165.

If you would lay off the juice, weigh at 135 and fight at 155, all top 135ers would take the fight.

As always, in every Cyborg discussion ever, all of her problems are 100% of her own making, and 100% solvable by her, with ease.

What do they have in her though? A known steroid cheater? A known scale and weight manipulator and cheater? A liar who looks non-female from a career of chemical abuse?

She doesn't look natural and she isn't good for the sport.

Because she don't looke like this...

Few women look like Jaime Koeppe, the first lady you posted. Certainly one of the most popular fitness models back in the day and even did nudes early in her career.

I think they do, but that doesn't change the fact that there's not enough challengers at 145 to make a division for her. At this point it is what it is. She's fun to watch but still a lack of competition. She won't move down and risk losing her strength advantage and the big name 135ers won't move up and risk losing where they are at their best.
