What are some UFC debuts that were scheduled, but never came to fruition.

I'll start...

Edson Barboza was supposed to make his UFC debut against Darren Elkins. Both guys were completely green in the UFC. Fast forward 7 years to now, they are both elite.

Barboza only had 6 fights when he entered the UFC.

How would this have played out? How do you think it would've changed their careers?

A knee injury suffered while working on takedowns has forced lightweight Darren Elkins out of of his scheduled bout at UFC 123 next week. He will be replaced by fellow Midwest fighter Mike Lullo. Lullo fights out of the Midwest Training Center in Schaumburg, Ill., that produced current UFC lightweight Clay Guida. Lullo, who lost his first two fights, has won eight straight fights, and six straight by submission.

Opponent will be undefeated Edson Barboza, a striker and is a Muay Thai champion in his native Brazil. Five of his six wins have come by stoppage and he has only been beyond the first round once.

UFC 123, scheduled for November 20 is the promotion's first event in Michigan since UFC 9 in 1996. The PPV is headlined by a battle between former light heavyweight champs Lyoto Machida and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. The co-main event features the rubber match between former welterweight champ and UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes and former lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn.

Gergard v Gus is the first that comes to mind for me , I will try to think of others

Mousasi vs Gustafsson in Sweden.

The Swedish Federation wouldn't let Gus fight because of a cut above the eye. Well, that's Europe for ya...

The UFC in panic mode had to find some regional fighter to save Mousasi's debut. And they found an unprepared and fat Ilir Latifi.

Moose didn't look as dominant as he had hoped to, and quickly moved down to MW after that fight.

Latifi did good against Mousasi all things considered.

I'm a huge Elkins fan being from Northwest Indiana... But I'm glad for his sake that this fight never came to fruition. It definitely could have changed Elkins career going forward... I believe for the worse. If Elkins was a team alpha male back then, he would have knocked out Edson in the third after losing the first two rounds

I think Hector Lombard vs Brian Stann would have been nuts if that went down. Brian would have went into terminator mode and just keep coming forward either forcing Hector to fight back or get KTFO.

Adam Khaliev was supposed to debut about 400 times.

Hell, he still has a UFC.com profile! http://www.ufc.com/fighter/Adam-Khaliev

Reminds me of that old Chinese story, "We will see..."

Old man's son breaks his leg while working in he field. Friends say, bad luck, old man, you are down a worker. "We will see..." Month later regional war breaks out and all young men are culled for battle, but the child with the broken leg is left home....

The story goes on like this, where seemingly good fortune brings bad events, and bad events lead to best scenarios, and all the old man says when either happens is, "We will see..."

Yes, a win over Darren Elkins would have changed anybody's career... from 0 to red panty night...

Gus vs Mousasi would have been a great fight. Adam Khaliev vs Pascal Krauss was supposed to happen, but Khaliev got pulled out and never wanted to fight... again

I actually meant more like what if he lost. What if either guy got merked. It could have changed the trajectory of either career

Brock vs Coleman. Coleman got hurt and ran to 205.

That was suppose to take place at UFC 87, Lesnar’s second fight.

Barao was suppose to scrap with DJ at UFC 130, until Brad Pickett got injured and had to pull out of his fight with Miguel Torres. DJ ended up fighting Torres and Barao fought Cole Escovedo.
