Who do you think is the most popular UFC champion apart from GSP and Silva?

Who has the potential to be the most popular?

Reason I ask is I just realized that I would probably be the biggest Jon Jones fan if I had only watched him fight and never heard him talk outside of the octagon. He is so exciting to watch but all the Rashad bitchiness and Jesus stuff, plus the DUI makes him so much less popular I think.

HW:

Cain Velasquez- Obviously a huge draw with the Mexican population. Hard not to like and admire the guy. The fact that he eats burittos during training camp is awesome etc, comes across very well. Could he be huge outside of Mexico and US?

JDS- Huge in Brazil, knocks people out for fun, hard not to like him also.

Todd Duffee and Brock Lesnar- This is the type of guy I think most Americans would like to be HW champ (I am British). Am I wrong?

Mark Hunt: Everybody loves this guy, plus cinderella story factor. Imagine if champ!

LHW:

JBJ- As mentioned, style alone he would be insanely popular but events outside the octagon may put people off.

Pride legends- Shogun, Rampage, Hendo etc these guys are globally respected. I think Rampage a few years ago before the drama was a very popular champion.

Gustaffson- Would be huge for MMA in Europe

Te-Huna: Would be a great way for MMA to really gain even more popularity in Australia

MW:

Anderson- Probably the most marketable and popular champion. We know he is HUGE in Brazil but Burger King and Nike clearly see him as a superstar also. Shame he is only working on his English more now though.

Bisping: Would be huge in Europe if champ.

Rockhold: Saw a thread on this recently, think he could be super popular just due to his looks and character.

Weidman: All the bitching and moaning about the Silva shot put some people off, IF he wins, hopefully he will not become even more annoying. But I think the casual fan would like him. Thoughts?

WW:

GSP- Huge in Canada. Big movie deal coming up! French thing puts some people off but this guy is hard not to like. Shame his fights are not the most exciting though.

Johhny Hendrick: Again kind of like Weidman, a lot of people heard him say the same stuff over again in interviews. But in his case it was much more deserved. Plus the beard and USA Wrestling thing plus awesome knockouts. This guy could be very popular.

Rory Macdonald: This guy is just wierd right? Great fighter, but unsure if global superstar material.

LW:

Benson: The toothpick and religious stuff is strange. But his ethnic background makes him more appealing to a wider audience (popular in asia and US). He is also down to eart etc.

Anthony Pettis: This guy could be a superstar if champ? Great highlight reel and cool guy etc.

Nate Diaz: Great fighter, but if was champ would struggle to be super popular as hard to understand what the dude is saying.

Thoughts on how popular Melendez could be? Less marketable than Bendo I think?

FW:

Jose Aldo: Language barrier, but I think if he keeps winning he will be a superstar.

Korean Zombie: Love his fights, could continue to be a huge draw in Asia especially if champ?

BW:

Thoughts on Cruz and Barao? Popularity in this weight class in general?

Flyweight:

Personally think Dodson would be the most popular. Backflips, ninja turtles, knockouts. He is the man.

Women:

Obviously Rousey is going to be huge! Very vocal though. Any girls going to be better than her? Hate to say it but the hotter they are the more popular they will be right?

Interested to hear your thoughts on who the next superstar of MMA will be and what obstacles you think current champions are facing from becoming more popular!

The People's Champion, Chael P. Sonnen (R)

How did I forget!!

Of course, I admit I was routing for Anderson when they fought. But I really want him to beat Jones and he made a great TUF series.

Sometimes find it a bit over the top, but imagine if he was champion, it would be comedy all day long!

I think JBJ is already just as popular as GSP and Silva, well at least Silva and if he keeps on stringing wins his PPV numbers will match there's.

I think Pettis could be a good champion, knows how to finish fights and has a likeable personality. In other divisions there are guys like Hendricks, Weidman, Mousasi, and Daniel Cormier that if they get that belt they'll be loved and hated by many but not too many can discount what they do in the octagon.

the figters signed by Nike. like JBJ, AS and JDS

I think Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods were both signed by Nike... they aint got much in the way of fans anymore.

You list 50 guys who mostly aren't champions, so I'm not sure if you're asking what ifs...

To answer the question in the title... Other than GSP and Silva, it's probably Jones then Cain.

I think most people except Jones fans and Chael haters, want Jones to lose

I second this... what the hell are you going on about? I'm not even saying tl;dr, because I actually read all that, and most of them aren't champions, so how would they be the most popular champion???

Do you mean if they won the title, or are you asking who the most popular champions are?

I mean, the champions are already popular, so I don't know what obstacle you're referring to. Also, it's a fight, not a Miss World pageant.

I really feel like Bendo has the potential to be huge. He's exciting, down to earth, likable and there's just no bullshit with him. He's even saying he'd fight the champion in a higher weight class, which is rare for a champ.

GSP was already more popular among casual fans and now thanks to him being in a big movie he will become even more popular. As a Christian tho it bothers me when people say they like Benson, except the "Jesus stuff". That he is a Christian shouldn't be a problem..

I personally believe that Dennis Siver as a champion could be huge for the UFC. Germany is a big market with largely untapped potential (mainly due to legal restrictions IMO).

Agreed, personally it makes me a bigger fan of his. Apart from GSP Bendon is my favorite champ I think.

Depends on which popularity you are speaking of.

If the popularity was based on dominance that would clearly be Jones. . .
If the popularity were to be heart you could probably give that to Ben Henderson...

To me I would put Jones up there...probably Silva and also Aldo! GSP got hit a lot during his last two fights...

I don't think even the TS knows what is going on.
