Media UFC BJJ championship belt revealed

The belt is ass but the show and the matches are actually really good. I DGAF about sport BJJ but CJI last year got my interest. This show should be called UFC CJI. It’s 3 rounds with 10 point must scoring so matches are exciting without any stalling for advantage point crap you see in regular IBJJF rules.

They should spin it off for a UFC Muay Thai/Kickboxing show and belt as well.

I actually do BJJ but I know it's not the most viewer friendly for those who don't grapple themselves. 4oz glove Muay Thai however, is very casual friendly.

I know Dana made a comment about not ever wanting to do Kickboxing but that's just dumb if people would watch. Nobody ever asked for slap fighting and he still went ahead.

I was expecting some power slap level looking garbage and this surpassed my expectations💩
They even got the belt wrong!! (No white stripes portion / red end)
*Someone on Reddit said it looks like a Kamen Rider belt. I don't know what that is; but it sounds hilarious🤣😂🤣

I'd watch Muay Thai with 4 oz gloves but that's what MMA fighters are already encouraged to do. Everyone knows being an exciting striker will get you an instant TS vs. having to win 10 straight if you're a grappler. But I'd still watch if they did it.

I'm also a BJJ guy and fall asleep trying to watch regular IBJJF rules. But the 3 round, 10 point must system rules that CJI put on is good. It's basically MMA grappling which last year's CJI already showed can bring in casuals.

Yes, I quite enjoyed the CJI. The UFC definitely copied their pit design, which to be fair they did take from Karate Combat.

I'd like to see the UFC cage actually replaced by the pit. It's a much better fight platform in my view.

There's a thread on this in the grappling subforum but it's not exactly the CJI/Karate Combat pit. CJI pit has straight sides angled at 45 degrees so it's impossible to get pushed out and you can't really wall walk up it on bottom. So it incentivizes competitors to move forward and engage.

UFC BJJ pit is gently sloped like a skateboard half pipe and Nolf's second match showed an aggressive wrestler can push his opponent out with a TD attempt and need to be reset in the center - which defeats the point of having sloped sides. UFC probably made theirs different to avoid a trademark lawsuit from CJI/Karate Combat.

But yeah, it's a better surface than a regular octagon cage and UFC should use it for all its events.

I think that the walls/sides should just be higher to avoid the pushing out.

Would be interesting how this would work for MMA. Would it cut all the wall wrestling and make it more difficult to get up? Would it make fighters shoot more in open space and not against the wall? How about fighters who like to pressure their opponents against the fence for boxing exchanges or clinch? This could affect their game too.

ugly as shit but it probably a cheap investment for them. They can invite the Russians and have the Sambo vs No-gi competition.
