UFC APEX to host fights for the foreseeable future

What happened to the fight island?

Your own source says it

"The utilization of the UFC Apex will apparently not slow the company’s pursuit of a location in international waters that has colloquially been dubbed “Fight Island.” White told Yahoo! Sports the facility remains in development and should also be open sometime in May.

That location would allow the company to host fights between fighters around the globe who may encounter trouble getting into the U.S. while travel restrictions remain in place."

This won't happen unless other sports are back behind closed doors, also.

They'll just whine to ESPN who will put a stop to it.

dunno why they wouldn't just do it in these performance institute buildings, they're nice as fuck and all you need are the essential people there to televise, score, etc.

I think its more likely that the major sports will use this as a test case
If the UFC and the WWE are able to continue putting on shows without any major problems or people getting sick then the other sports can use that as an argument for getting back to business themselves

I can totally see other sports Commissioners vying to be the "first sport back".
First one back gets the most attention, and potentially be the most watched sporting event ever on TV.

wwe has been doing it the entire time...yet I don't see any outrage in the media over that....

lol. Disney is a multi billion dollar company that knows how to make money. If they're "politically correct" its because that's what sells. Simple as that. There is no agenda beyond the bottom line.

Meanwhile, White told Yahoo Sports that the much-discussed Fight Island is expected to be ready by the middle of May. In theory, the venue there will host bouts featuring international athletes who are not able to make it to the United States as a result of travel restrictions.

“We’re going to run through the American fighters pretty quickly, so we have to get that up and ready to roll,” White said.

The UFC is regulated (rightly so) by athletic commissions. Fighters need medicals, testing and a lot of staff to proceed with a fight. It is almost a rule that multiple fighters from each and every UFC card end up in the emergency room of a hospital.

WWE is taking a risk but its not remotely the same thing. It is choreographed entertainment and it isn't a matter of course that the participants are going to the hospital for trauma immediately after.

Further, regarding the Apex - Dana cannot have fights in the state of Nevada without NSACs explicit permission. They told the UFC no before, and haven't met again yet.

There is no reason to believe this will happen until NSAC announces they are resuming approval of athletic contests under their supervision.
