UFC announces their top7 fights of all time

So no Rousey v Holm, the UFC just can't let go of their girl.

I can't argue with Conor/Nate 2 though.
One of the most exciting nail biters that had all fans screaming at the tv at some point. It was a 5rd bloody war between 2 tough mofos. Had a great back story and lots of drama leading up.
What was the great back story?

Conor had recently won the featherweight title and was scheduled to go up to 155 to challenge RDA for the lightweight belt. When RDA was pulled from the fight with an injury, Conor was given a choice of 3-4 replacement opponents. He chose Nate Diaz because he appeared to be the easiest fight -- a journeyman lightweight who had lost 3 of his last 5 fights and was on vacation in Mexico when he got the call to fight on short notice a week and half before the fight. Conor proceeded to get choked out by the journeyman. Instead of defending his featherweight title (a weight class he had fought at 7 times in the UFC), he inexplicably chose to demand a rematch with the journeyman lightweight at welterweight, holding up the featherweight division for another 5 and half months. This was the first time that the UFC had to create an interim title in a division where the champion was not injured. Conor later caused this to happen at lightweight, too.

In this supposedly legendary rematch, Conor "knocked down" Diaz three times but refused follow up with strikes of any kind while Diaz was playing possum on his back. The rest of the fight consisted mostly of boring, lethargic, weak stand up exchanges that included a lot of Conor running away and looking at the clock, culminating in Diaz taking Conor down in the final minute of the fight and doing a little ground and pound until Conor was saved by the bell.

Best, or biggest? Was it the hype leading to fight that makes you think it was the "best", or the fight itself?

Fight itself wasn't that exciting in my opinion. The only thing that made it exciting is that Jones wasn't able to steamroll his opponent for the first time in a long while, which is maybe why a lot of people thought this was a great fight.

Best. There hasn't been a better title fight at LHW. Shogun v Machida 1 was a good one but there hasn't been a better title fight at 205 I think.

It was 2-2 going to the 5th. In a back and forth fight full of excitement. Not sure what more you could want.

In no order

Jones v Gustafsson
Rory v MacDonald 2
Bigfoot vs Hunt 1
Korean Zombie v Poirier
Barry v Kongo

Lmao @ Joanna v Gadelha and McGregor v Diaz fights top 25 fights of all time

How the fuck is Weidman vs Silva not on the bracket? People want to argue and say SIlva is the GOAT, bla bla, yet this fight isnt listed. GTFO with this stupid shit.

I want someone to be hurt. Neither was really hurt. Again, I think the main reason people thought first 4 rounds was exciting is just because they were in the shock of seeing Jones not be able to dominate

Hm? Why would they want to make that fight more public to strengthen their case for Silva being GOAT?

Plus, the fight sucked until the KO so.

I'd like to see certain amount of diversity and unpredictability in mma fights. If definition of a great fight is just loads of knockdowns, blood and wobbly legs then I could see fighters wanting to stage such bouts to make eachother look better in the eyes of the fans. Unpredictability and "realness" of the fight matters a lot in my opinion.

But really such opinions are always subjective and I can see your point about wanting to see all action bouts. I enjoy them as well. I did enjoy Guida-Diego and Melendes-Diego even though I wouldn't consider either a top 5 fight of all time.

2 best fights I have ever seen.

Conor/Nate 2
Jones/Gus

Conor/Nate 2 over Hendo/Shogun and Rory/Lawler and Gus/Jones? Fucking joke.

In fact, If you would ask me the high magnitude fights in UFC that disappointed the most, I would definitely name McG Diaz 2 and Wanderlei Liddell

Thank you so much for saying that; I routinely feel like I'm missing something when I see Silva-Liddell referred to as a great fight.

This list is mostly hogwash. Lawler-Condit makes the cut but Lawler-MacDonald 2 doesn't??

Interesting... But wouldn't doubt that 90% that vote will be casual. Mcgregor - Diaz fights were exciting. But not in my top 3.

Didn’t notice they actually snuck in a rousey fight

What a joke

Rory vs Lawler 2
Hendo vs Shogun
Jones vs Gus
Hunt vs Bigfoot
Dc vs Gus
Edger vs Maynard 3
Conor vs Nate 2
Aldo vs Mendes 2
Anderson vs Chael
Lawler vs Condit

You don’t remember Gus staggering around the cage at the end of the 5th ?
