UFC and Soccer... UFC has replaced boxing and it's here to stay

Because it's easier and MMA fighters suffer from less brain trauma.

PS: Boxing and footwork is the best stand up variant possible. Boxing will never die, it will always be trained. MMA fighters train boxing all the time.

Boxing is the best stand up variant within boxing rules. No doubt about it. Anyone who hasn't specialized for years in that rule set is in for a rude awakening if they think success in MMA has prepared them for the boxing big leagues.

But a lot of boxing defense and footwork translate poorly to a situation in which takedowns or leg kicks are involved.

When it comes to combat sports, the rule set is everything. Specialized rulesets lead to very talented specialists, but they are also very poorly rounded and have many vulnerabilities once the restrictive rule set is removed. This is why there is room for both boxing and MMA. Boxing produces guys who spend all day learning to punch. MMA produces guys able to react to a wide variety of situations. Both have value and are entertaining.

What did I just say ?

You compared gloves to mouthguards...mouthguards protect the guy getting punched. Gloves protect the guy punching. Two different things...mouthguards may reduce some concussive effect and let guys take some more damage than they could without but not to the extent that gloves protect hands and allow for more offense.

Bareknucked guys targeted the body more because of the threat of breaking their hands...take the gloves away and you'll see less headhunting (and most likely less brain trauma as a result).

Take the protective equipment away and let's see if the NFL guys can still hit like they do.

Conor couldn't make it in in the amateur boxing circuit in Ireland, so he went to MMA.

Let that settle in, buddeh.

Boxing > MMA in skill

Lesnar trained for 2 years in MMA and became UFC champ. LoL, that would NEVER happen in boxing.

While I agree that Boxing takes more skill. Lesnar also wrestled is whole life and was a D-1 Champ. A an amateur wrestler can train MMA for two years and be successful in MMA, but if a Top Boxer trained MMA for two years, more than likely he would not have the same success.

They are also two different sports. It's like saying Ice hockey takes more skill than American Football, but an NHL player still can't compete in the NFL.

Manchester United worth 3.5 billion, UFC worth 4 billion.

Yeah, it's bigger than soccer though.

Dude, the Cowboys (who f'ng suck) are worth close to 4 billion dollars.

MMA is awesome, but tiny compared to mainstream sports.

Boxing is far from dead in the UK, loads of casual interest... the only negative to that though is that even the mismatches & crap fights are stuck on PPV Box office. Can't say that about the U.S market, that's hurting. Boxing will always be my main combat sport vvv attendances of some of the biggest british boxing bouts over the past few years vvv

Look I like MMA but I'm not a fan of some bases of it... I'm not big on the ground based martial arts, especialy when a fighters being held against the cage for 3 sets of 5 minutes straight to grind out a decision. I'm not saying them forms of combat are bad or anything, I just like to watch stand up warfare. I also prefer that in Boxing you get a 10 second count if you hit the floor & are given the chance to recover... I know MMA is meant to be all "hardcore, streetwise & extreme rules" ect. but hitting a guy when he's out cold on the floor doesn't to nothing for me. Putting them little personal cons to the side... this is what I love about UFC that Boxing needs to learn off...

vvv

- A fighter is rarely protected in UFC
- The best are forced into fighting the best constantly under the UFC
- MMA Fighters aren't afraid of losing their 0 & taking a defeat
- UFC Fighters are rarely aloud to pad their records with a bunch of bums
- In Boxing there's lots of champions per weight class (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, Ring, Lineal titles) in the UFC you have ONE champion & that's what fans want is to have a cemented #1 but I don't like how this crappy UFC INTERIM BELT has come into it... come on Dana cut that shit out!€

I might not be the biggest MMA fan but for the past 5 years or so it's been a routine watch mostly every weekend when a card is on along witht the Boxing. I like them both, they're both good in their own ways.

MMA fans still insecure as fuck about their sport, I see. MMA will never be a tradition. It's a sanctioned freak show and we all know it. Just enjoy it for what it is, and stop sniping at other sports like jealous little girls. Fucking pathetic.

ok sure the problem is that Ronda is likely not coming back and the Conor bubble is about to get burst when he gets his booty kicked by Nate again, then what are you going to do? can't bring in WWE guys to boost PPV sales anymore because of USADA

Well said, if boxing fixed its glaring problems with match making it would be even more amazing.

Brook vs GGG is going to have WAY more buzz than bisping/silva in the o2 arena.

MMA will be the no.1 followed combat sport in the world. Just see the growth....consider that Boxing is a hundred years old, and mma is barely 20-30 years old.....

And combat sports will never be followed like teams/sports...thats where all these stupid comparisons die. They're different.

Jesus christ, you complete fucking idiot.

Yea MMA will never get close to football, but neither does boxing or any other sport. Football is the world sport and it will likely remain like this. Deal with it 'mericans ;)

I agree that mma probably surpassed Boxing in terms of popularity and views but it still doesn't compare to soccer. Hopefully one day.

How are boxers better when all they have is their one little comfort zone of fighting one way? In MMA, there are a variety of ways to win or lose.
