UFC 71 Rampage/Chuck Was 18 years ago today

That whole card was good.

Kalib starnes and leben put on a great fight
Terry Martin slam ko’d salaverry
The debut of 21 year old Jeremy Stephen’s vs a long time veteran Din Thomas
Karo Parisyan in a fun fight vs Josh Burkman

Still one of my favorite cards of all time

Ah yes, kalib starnes before running man.

Happy for Rampage finally becoming a champ, but sad as a Chuck fan seeing that he'd finally lost his iron chin. I thought he'd come in like he did against Randy at UFC 52, lean with great footwork and a gas tank to go five hard rounds outstriking Rampage the way he should've in their first fight. Instead, he came in slow and plodding but without the chin that allowed him to take his opponents' shots to give shots of his own, and he went down the first time Rampage touched his chin. The end of the Iceman, the end of an era.

lol jfc I remember watching that live and telling my casual friends that Chuck was going to get wrecked and no one believed me.

UFC was so awesome at that time, the buzz and excitement was amazing. I was shocked Rampage knocked him out so quickly, I did actually think Rampage would beat Chuck again but I didn't think it would be over so quick, I thought it would be a much closer fight and longer.

I wish we could go back to that time, MMA was booming and so good. So many great events.

The era post-pride acquisition was so fun. Peak UFC. only era that came close was when they bought Strikeforce. UFC only thrives when they get an influx of talent from another org lol

WAY back then, the ufc was actually in the IGAF mode.

Fans and fighters weren't taken advantage of as bad as they are now.

It's truly a shame how low the standards have sunk.

It was a unique moment in history.

It's weird how monopolies work.

NBA players get paid a fuck ton.

Yet, MMA fighters get peanuts.

I know the revenue difference but MMA pulls in a lot and pays low af vs. NBA pulling and paying a lot.

UFC seems one of the few sports monopolies that does that. It's not a good look.

bigger leagues making more doesn't matter its the % that is the issue. Every legitimate league is close to 50/50 for the players. UFC fighters get less than 15% of the revenue. You prob know all this it just pisses me off

Very true, totally agree, UFC was so much fun in that era. Every event was so good and must watch. I miss those times.
