"The number is an estimated 42 percent increase from the 190,000 estimate for Henderson's previous pay-per-view main event, at UFC 150 in Denver, against Frankie Edgar."

And with Showtime holding the belt, it will only rise.
You are quite a negative nancy.

Fine by me. The best weight class for free in HD? Yes, please.

A 42% increase from a shit number to another shit number, doesn't change the fact that your increased number is still shit.

I agree Showtime's likely to attract far more PPV buys than Henderson as champ, but I doubt he'll get the chance as I see the LW title staying on Fox cards for awhile

And it's not being negative to say that the LWs and lighter weight classes are drawing less than the other classes, even if that number has increased. It's still a fact that they're not doing well on PPV.

I'm totally fine watching Lightweight title defenses on free TV. Lightweight is my favorite division.

Pettis is sure to be a bigger draw than Ben, though. He's more exciting, better in front of the cameras, etc.

Variety of sources = some places having it as low as 200K and some places having it as high as 325K.

That's more than fine considering past lw title fight #'s, that wasn't the main event from the outset, and the fact they were stupid enough to undercut their ppv by putting a free event on 3 days earlier. You had to be a die hard to get geared up for another card so soon. The casuals were satiated for a while.

Not if the goal you're looking for is growth on marketability and name value. If your profit goes up 42% from year to the next, you're more likely to be happy with the growth than you are with "shit number to shit number" or whatever the argument there is.

Not to mention June to August (outside of the big 4th of July PPVs) basically constitute the MMA offseason of sorts. Shows are always down around those times.

It was the one which involved your favorite fighter Anthony Pettis winning a UFC title.

Why is it shit? UFC does PPV every month on top of multiple free cards. You don't expect every card to do over 500k do you?

No one, except BJ, below 170 does great #s. They are building it up on Fox. I am glad for the free title fights.

    Yeah just checked it

I gave that card a miss and I rarely miss mma or boxing events

Though I am from the uk so it doesn't matter bit if I did have to pay ppv I wouldn't have for 164

Just wasn't that excited for the card, Mir vs Barnett yeah but the rest no

If it wasn't for me, they would have only done 269,999.

All things considered, that's not too shabby.

I think that has a lot to do with Bens decision streak.
That was the last fight he was in that was finisbed since when?
Wec days? Cerrone? Henderson was a boring unpopular champ.

I thought 300k would have been a pretty good number beforehand so its pretty decent.

It's a low number. I don't think you can deny that. It's nothing to get excited about

I don't expect every card to do over 500k, but 300k should be the minimum for a card to have been at least partially successful

Lighter weights get no love in MMA while the heavier weights get no love in boxing. Isn't that funny.
