I like rule number 8
Bring back 4 & 8!
I didn't even know they had rounds in UFC 1.
Rule 8 produced a few stunningly dull fights.
People always cry about decisions, but I'd rather see a boring fight stopped after 15 minutes than be forced to sit through that shit for 90.
No. You don't.
If they didn't scrap rule 8, Shamrock/Severn II would STILL be going on.
Funny that the early rules were better in a lot of ways than the rules of today.
Our referee in charge of the pit, is Big John McCarthy.
simple, bring back the yellow card system & add KO and Sub bonuses for all fights not just 2.
it's not like fighters ever got yellow carded for not being japanese or anything.
i dont know if this was a first draft or something but it is definitely not the rules that were used for UFC 1 and the next few.
there were no rounds or time limits, no one wore gloves (except art jimmerson on one hand) but still punched to the face, and groin shots were definitely thrown.
I believe the only rules were no eye gouging and no biting.
Biting was allowed ?
I remember thinkin it wasnt
The articles I linked below said UFC1 disallowed groin strikes.
"At the inaugural UFC event, there were three rules: no biting, eye gouging or groin strikes. "
"The others compromised with Rorion and UFC 1 rules were set. Fights had an unlimited number of five-minute rounds. Eye gouging, biting, and groin strikes were designated as illegal techniques."
This is how i remember it
If you watch UFC 1 you will see a clock in the corner of the screen sometimes.
No biting, no eye gouging, and no small joint manipulation. No rounds/time limits. And the first guy to use what would become MMA gloves was Tank Abbott.
A 20' circular pit to be designed by John fucking Milius.
No whining. And once a Hawaiian is beaten unconscious, he must be punched until he has convulsions.
Separate names with a comma.
