Top boxing contender Tyson Fury and #1-ranked kickboxer Daniel Ghiță trained together in 2012. But now they are on opposite sides as Ghiță prepares to face Rico Verhoeven on June 21 for the GLORY World Heavyweight Championship. Fury has trained extensively with Verhoeven and on Thursday night he picked his side in the conflict via a typically provocative tweet.
Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has waded into the war of words going on between Daniel Ghiță and Rico Verhoeven.
Fury, working towards a top contender spot in boxing's heavyweight division, knows both men well. Verhoeven and Ghiță are former training partners and Fury trained with them both in recent years.
Until recently, Ghiță did a lot of his training at the SuperPro Center in the Netherlands, headed by Verhoeven's coach Dennis Krauweel.
Anglo-Irish boxer Fury was also often to be found there. He has spent considerable time based in the Netherlands in recent years, preferring the peace and quiet he can find there, and he has trained with Verhoeven, Ghiță and Albert Kraus among others.
Ghiță stopped training with Verhoeven and Krauweel last year but Fury maintains ties with the SuperPro group Twitter war broke out earlier this week between Ghiță and Verhoeven. On Thursday night, Fury got involved.
Ghiță and Verhoeven are ranked #1 and #2 respectively in the world of heavyweight kickboxing and on Saturday June 21 they will dispute the vacant World Heavyweight Title at GLORY: LAST MAN STANDING in Los Angeles, California.
We know where Tyson Fury is putting his money but what about you - are you rolling with #TeamGhita or #TeamVerhoeven for this one?
