Tyne & Wear MMA?

I was wondering if anyone knew of any decent MMA gyms/clubs in the north east of England, I've heard of "bearpit" or something, but I was wondering if there were any more, or if anyone had any good reports from anywhere in the area.

Sorry for the vague nature of the question, and the lack of knowing where to put it.


Oh yeah, and I dont want to know how to do a "crab hold" or whatever that guy said in the other "MMA's biggest joke" thread. I've got enough crabs holding onto me as is.....

Well if you're in Sunderland there's a Master Team BJJ place over that way www.masterBJJ.co.uk . They have a very good gym there & Aaron and Trev are very good coaches.

there's also Pheonix MMA in Newcastle but Ive heard some bad things about them (never been myself though).

Phenix MMA sounds familiar for some reason, not sure why. I heard that was one of the better ones in the area. Or is it just that there are no others? :icon_conf

Not bashing - just completely bermused.


Many thanks for your link postage mate, much appreciated. Would a judogi be sufficient or are BJJ gis different?

Judo Gis are fine but they're a much bigger cut than a BJJ gi so if you decide to stick with it you'll probabaly want to get a BJJ gi down the line. Pheonix might be fine for standup but their grappling is supposed to be sub-par.

They're probabaly a much better bet than Pheonix as Dave is a legit Gracie Barra purple belt and has several MMA fights under his belt. that club is both BJJ and MMA based.
