1. Since UFC 307 is at elevation in Salt Lake City, someone (UFC, Pereira, Ankalaev) wanted to avoid this fight. Most likely UFC itself. Maybe they thought it would have a higher chance of sluggish lay and pray victory.

2. While I WANTED to see Ankalaev vs Pereira, upon further thought, I would feel completely unsatisfied, if not completely ripped off, if Ankalaev won solely by holding down Alex for time. That wouldn't prove to me he's a superior fighter... Just that within this (poor) ruleset, he could hold someone down for points.

Would YOU be satisfied if Ankalaev won this way? Obviously, none of this applies if he submits or seriously damages Alex on the ground. But it seems to me that this is a situation the UFC is going further and further to avoid... While essentially allowing it.

What are we basing your framing of Ankalaev as some sort of lay and pray artist on lol. The Blachowicz fight was the most grappling he's ever done in a fight. The vast majority of his fights are all primarily striking.

Ankalaev is not a Khabib level wrestling talent <lol> Let's not get crazy here

The Blachowicz fight (where he was significantly behind) + the fight being a 5-rounder at elevation. It's a distinct possibility imo. Again, to me it was (mostly) an intriguing fight.

Ankalaev has never “held somebody down to buy time” in his life. He rarely ever wrestles but when he does he has some of the most devastating gnp in the game.

the conspiracy fires are hot since this announcement

Bryce is going to have a field day.

I think if there is anything going on it's the UFC doesn't care for or wants Perreira/Ankalaev. Perreira is the most marketable fighter they have now, because of his style, but also cause his activity, he's just very relevant. There is a future there with bigger fights. Having Ankalaev as champion doesn't really do much for them and I am sure they know this.

That is why Ankalaev got matched up with the toughest fight in the division with Rakic. Perahps they are hoping somone dertails Ankalaev and they won't have to do the Perreira fight.

Gives Pereira more time to continue to work on TDD. Also Ankalaev wanted his time off and had issues with timing. I think if Pereira is able to stop him when they do lock horns, he's going to be one of the near perfect fighters.

Co-main is a guaranteed snoozer so maybe they wanted some fireworks. With that neckbeard you never know. Had he lost, his butt buddy Khadyrov might have been demanding overturning the results.

Yes, I would be satisfied. Not as satisfied as more entertaining outcomes, but still satisfied. I'll be satisfied if the fight happens and it doesn't end in a no contest or DQ.

so a fighter using the rules othe sport to win the sporting event he is competing in, is not a superior fighter?

The thing that is intriguing to me is why is Ankalaev not screaming to high heaven. Maybe it’s just too early at this point.

That I think would also let us know a lot more about the situation (Ank's reaction). So many possibilities and things that potentially make sense, but not quite

This version of your nonsense where you don't pretend like Ank only wants to fight in Abu Dhabi is way more reasonable.

You're a hater of his style. That's far more fair. Not sure why you hid behind that Abu Dhabi lie earlier when you could have just manned up and been forthright.

It's just a karate forum bro, why hide your agenda? is it that serious? lolol for real
