    Kurds didn't sacrifice anything

The US and other NATO countries did the lions share by bombing ISIS with jets and cruise missiles

All the PKK did was clean up the remnants. Even doing that they still managed to take massive casualties

    It seems like it's
"Why are we occupying other countries? get out of the ME!"

When we try to get out of the ME
"We really just going to screw the Kurds over and leave?" Got to pick one

I feel bad for the Kurds. Routinely used by powers "greater" than they and then abandoned when it doesn't suit said powers needs anymore.

    EDIT:
Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty fully on board the "stay out of the Middle East" bandwagon but it feels like trash having Special Forces and shit go in and work with the Kurds then get pulled out and abandon said allies to a military for a government that has wanted to eradicate them for years.

There are 12 million Kurds in Turkey apparently. Would the Turks not fear the Kurds in Turkey if they crossed any lines?

Apparently 2 million live in Istanbul.

I think that's the exact reason they want to stop any semblance of a Kurdish state in either Syria or Iraq

Trump has had no problem with erdogan himself repeatedly praising him as his one of his favorite leaders. This comes as no surpruse. but its nice we have a president that we have to guess where his financial ties are because he refuses to disclose them

There's a great episode of Top Gear where they're dropped into Baghdad and told to drive to Bethlehem as they're the "3 Wise (dumb) Men" and they first try to cross into Iran to avoid Iraq because there was still fighting in like Mosul at the time. They're denied entry into Iran cause they're with the BBC then they run into Turkey.

And they get a letter that goes:
"You idiots, you've just left a country with minimal war (the Kurdish region of Iraq) and entered one that has been having a civil war for a decade"

Our options are to stay indefinitely or do this. Syria is literally in Turkey’s backyard. They *have* to deal with the Kurdish issue, we don’t. A Kurdish state is not viable and would lead to an invasion of it. Turkey, Iran, and Iraq are not interested in losing a chunk of their country.

It’s very sad but we simply don’t live in the neighborhood and so we can’t just stay forever, doing nothing. I hope there are some safeguards for the Kurds.

That’s the reality of being a small nation in the middle of larger, powerful nations. Look at the history of a place like Poland, sandwiched in between two great powers.

Many sacrificed themselves by blowing themselves up

But now Turkey can do that for them

    This is terrible news.

If turkey is going to invade and likely annex parts of Syria, basically dismantling the state of Syria as a whole, then we can expect other regional powers to try to annex lands and maintain Syria as a proxy for their special interest.

Expect Iran, Israel, Hezbollah, Russia and Saudi Arabia to get involved one way or another, and expect them to try to drag in more powers.

This is how things spiral out of control.

Russia aren't going to lose their port Tartus, that's just a fact look what they did in Crimea to retain Sevastopol. Zero fucking about just took it and then worried about it later.

Israel wants to expand into the Golan Heights and have companies set up to drill oil there etc.

If someone really wants to shit int he kettle, then Assad should give some of Syria to the Kurds and give them autonomy.
