Those popular vote numbers are insane. Back in 2016 the total popular vote was around 134 million people. But in the 2020 popular vote there was 156 million people voting. In 4 years there suddenly is 22 million more voters. Not trying to accuse either party of anything just saying it's weird.

Trump's incompetence inspired people to vote against him. Lots of usual nonvoters cast a ballot because they were concerned. Also, the population increased, a lot of people came of age or became citizens, and there was record turnout by young people. The numbers were always there, but only about half of the eligible population was participating between 1980-2000. The numbers started going up in 2004 and have gone up since then. 2016 had the highest turnout since the 1960s and 2020 had MUCH higher turnout because of the ramifications. I expect HIGH turnout in 2024 and throughout the decade, perhaps even going into the ongoing decades...
