For one week. Turn off your tv, only go on your phone to text and call people, no internet, read a book at night or work on a project, focus soley on your job, you'll notice all this mass media negative bullshit dies and the world around you becomes a much more habital place. Also I can never understand why people try to argue over something they have no control over or even care to actually try and do something about it. These forums are just a big dump site to haul all your your wasted concerns and emotions off cause you can't deal with life and need some attention because you think your opinion matters. Anyways if you don't fuel and feed the fire then it will burn itself out, you wanna save the world then do it by cutting out the garbage and start focusing on what's in front of you.

Just because i close my eyes it doesnt means it doesnt happens, my city went from 20 murders a year to 300 in 2 years and i directly witnessed zero, just because i refuse to read the paper doesnt means shit isnt happening.

already did that for two years

no internet and no nothing

very good experience,worth it

I agree it's good to unplug, especially from TV, but...

To not be completely out of touch with what is going in on your community and the world is just as bad.

99% of news and stories doesn't have even the slightest effect on my day. I don't really even watch news, I see most of it on here. If you really let a bunch of random shit bother you that's your problem. I don't need to "distance" myself from tv or Internet to have my life be better. There are a handful of sites I look at everyday, I don't go to them because I can't deal with my life either. Really it is mild entertainment and to kill some boredom.

The irony of your post is great btw.

So let me get this right, you went on the internet to tell people not to go on the internet. And to make matters worse you did it on a site were folks are obsessed about arguing about something most watch on the internet. Good luck with that my good man.

For an even better experience you should do this.

You mean go to work and actually do some work?

What if the book you're reading is even more negative than real life?

For 20 days now I have been without internet.

I get my TV, my computer content, my phone (viber and skype), may mail, all via internet. Being without it has only done 2 things for me and my wife:

1. A bit more sex
2. More SD posting on the down-low during work

Ill have to tom hanks myself on some uncharted island and draw a smiley face on a volleyball for that to happen.

While I can agree too much TV is a bad thing and the internet has led to an information overload the OP is saying ignore all the bad things in the world as you can't do anything about them. While ignorance may be bliss that doesn't make it the best option.

No, he's not. He's saying cut out television and internet for one week, which I don't see how anyone can shit on for any reason.

He goes on to say that it doesn't make sense for people to get themselves worked up over something on the internet and NOT care enough about it to do something in real life, where it matters. Which I also don't see how anyone could disagree with.

Then he calls us all out for being internet losers, bitching and moaning, which is probably closer to the truth than any of us want to admit. I guarantee you anyone who's financial/personal/sexual/whatever success you want to emulate would tell you dicking around on these forums is not a step in the right direction.

Everything people are shitting on him for are things they're reading into his statement so they have a reason to shit on him.

Great suggestion. People who say TV hardly affects them are the ones most affected by it because they fail to realize it. The things on TV are called "programs" for a reason. The images, patterns, colors, words, tones used, themes, subject matter, all affect the conscious and unconscious mind. Couple that with alpha waves from the TV causing the mind to relax and open up to suggestibility, and think about the possible impact simply watching a little TV has...

I haven't "watched" TV in years and when watching it at a coffee shop or a friends house the negativity and programming is obvious.

LOL. OK Aristotle

You don't need to do any of these things unless you have poor impulse control, or are weak minded.

My world is just fine, Thank you very much.

Unlike you, I will not speak to others motivations for being on and posting on the forum. But for me, it is simply a momentary diversion that I am not particularly wrapped up in, regardless of what I am writing.

Probably.

What is the point of cutting TV and Internet? Read a book instead? Why, what difference does it make. Work on a project, when I want to do so I do. There are a couple sites and tv shows that I watch most days as entertainment. I also play video games and do other shit to entertain myself.

As far as arguing with people for most people it is just killing time and as a form of entertainment. Like I said earlier if you really let random shit you read on the web ruin your day that is your problem and you should probably stay off the web.

I know people with millions of dollars that spend time on forums. It's just among a different crowd. Go check out some high performance car forums. Is spending time on forums the best thing you can do with your time. Probably not but unless you really truly have something better to do it doesn't make a difference if you spend time on forums, read a book, meditate or whatever other bs.

The last thing I read that made want to "do something about it" was the atf ban on xm855. I signed some petitions and did generic letters to senators, representatives and the atf. The effort was successfully as the atf dropped the ban because of unprecedented negative response.

I think the reason he was shat on mainly the idiotic statement that people come here because they can't deal with their life when in reality it is just a form of entertainment to kill some boredom. Like what cooks said ^

I think for periods of time you have to do this. Over a long period, this is burying ones head in the sand.

There is a time for everything. It is true that for many of us we need to shut out the outside world and concentrate on our own issues. But I also think it is important when our life is together to be aware of things going on that we can influence for the better as we are able.
