Catastrophic Insurance Coverage Guy should just be able to write a check for the primary care visit, then for the visits to the specialists to which he'll be referred, then for the battery of diagnostic tests the specialists will order run - the tests that will discover the early-stage cancer.

It's not that simple as tests and scans get into the thousands very quickly. There is a reason why health bills are the leading cause of bankruptcies still.

I'm not talking about high deductible insurance, I'm talking about comprehensive insurance not being a thing and people paying for primary care themselves that isn't inflated by comprehensive insurance being the norm. The "battery of diagnostic tests to discover cancer" are based on referrals and would be covered by cheap, life-threatening coverage.

Um, yeah, the entire conversation from every direction is about changes toward a system that we don't have. Try to keep up. The entire democratic field say they want to abolish private health insurance, and I'm saying yes, do that and just provide healthcare for life threatening illness and people can pay for minor things themselves instead of doubling my taxes to give comprehensive coverage for illegals and forcing doctors to take massive pay cuts.

My first post ITT was that I agree that obamacare was fucked up for a large segment of the population. You can't really call a conversation "intelligent" if you think it should just be bitching without looking for causes and solutions.
