Trump Takes Credit For Obamacare, Says Democrats Want to Repeal It

In 2016 Trump was all over the place at one point claiming he supported UHC.

There was room for cognitive dissonance

Now Trump is a known commodity.

I think that was one of the big reasons for the hlue wave in 2018.

Kasich embraced Obamacare in Ohio and has championed the Medicaid expansion

I think Healthcare in general is a winner for Democrats.

hiya PolishHeadlock2,

i've heard that and read that the midterms were about pre-existing conditions and the GOP's general lack of a plan.

we'll see about next year. i hope you're right.

i hope this doesn't become an election about Hunter Biden and the "coverup". or about Socialism. or about god-knows-what.

ahoy Amerikuracana,

here's the GOP's approach to healthcare;

1) vote to repeal Obamacare over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over in the House, and succeed with the certainty that nothing will come of it because there was zero chance President Obama would go along with it.

2) allow the Democrats to create safety nets and take credit for the things folks like about those safety nets - and then blame the Democrats for inevitable spending that such programs come coupled with. also make sure to lower taxes to decrease government revenue.

3) create an unfunded government mandate - take credit for the things folks like about the program and then blame the Democrats for the huge, immense, craterlike hole that something like Medicare Part D creates in the budget.

it seems a little haphazard, not particularly benevolent, and not very fiscally conservative.

but eh, GOP voters like their policies.

its very strange.

Spot on. It’s funny, Obamacare isn’t perfect, UHC was preferred but this was the middle ground for the dems and repubs. Not sure how you can’t have a mandate and allow preconditions.

unfortunately it will. The republican base is split into idiots and uneducated and then you have the evil bastards that know they will spin and sell.

Not once in has a GOP candidate put something on the table for healthcare. I personally know people who benefited from Obamacare. If it was up to the gop the status quo would remain and nothing would get done

No, he didn't, nor should he. Health insurance would be cheaper if people couldn't wait until something goes wrong to sign up. What Trump did do right was get rid of the mandate that takes people's money for not having something. What the hell kind of insurance for anything else can you sign up for after the thing goes wrong, or have to pay to not be covered? That's not insurance, that's a scam.

Biden's tweet is a lie though. 600,000 people were denied coverage for not paying into insurance and then signing up when they needed something, not "millions of people". What is actually "millions of people" is the 8 million who didn't want the shitty overpriced insurance and had to pay for not buying it. The huge majority of people they use to boost their numbers are people who didn't want it in the first place but had to buy it to avoid the penalty, which is a much larger number than the small number who tried to wait until after they needed it to sign up.
Gotta love your callousness towards the very lives of your fellow Americans. I hope you don't have any poor relatives who get sick, although, if you did, maybe you'd finally give a shit, because right wingers tend to only experience empathy when it hits them close to home.

hi Jackie Blue,

this guy - the guy you're responding to - is the same guy who will say "we need to forget about worrying about what will happen to the women in Afghanistan and worry about the people back home".

its ridiculous, but its also very funny.

lol.

Not sure what that has to do with my post. Medicaid covers the bottom 25% of the population and medicare covers retired people, and kids and students are covered under their parents, so we're not talking about any of those people We're talking about people who could get insurance, but don't and still want to use the benefits, which raises costs for people who understand that insurance is something you get in case you need it, not just when you need it and skipping the paying in part. What if everyone did that? Well then it wouldn't be insurance at all, it would just be everyone paying for procedures they need through some 3rd party that doesn't need to be there and is now more expensive because of that 3rd party instead of just paying the doctor directly.

I said in a subsequent post that I'm in favor of very cheap insurance, even if it's gov't run, that only covers life threatening illness, not comprehensive.

ahoy again Jackie Blue,

ayup.

Reagan had a massive erection for the 2nd amendment - then he took a bullet, and he had his come-to-Jesus moment on gun control faster than you could say, "Brady Bill".

*high fives*

Dude honestly who the fuck believes that trump text.

One of trumps main platforms during the campaign was to repeal Obamacare. How could you say with a straight face he’s “for the ACA”

I mean come on.

This is like denying 2+2=4

Did you believe Trump's text about "targeting Iran culture sites"? There was a lot of things said about that. Do people believe Trump only when it is convenient to their political bias?

Trump does say a lot of foolish things usually small things that wouldn't matter, do I believe him about this? Maybe. I don't think he wants to see people suffer and is on board about preconditions. But he and the GOP were full of it about the repeal and replace with something better. Healthcare seems to be a complex problem with no simple solution. I don't think you can have quality, cost effect widely available healthcare / insurance.

Ok so why even post his twitter post when you clearly know it’s not true?

Like no one actually believes what he’s saying in that tweet.

Still need to add perspective to the discussion for crying out loud. You know 100% it isn't true?

Hell in jussie smollett's threads or Rkelly threads people post what those guys have to say, it's all relevant, you have to allow the freedom of discussion to take place stop trying to dictate what can and what cannot be posted in a discussion/thread man, that's not a good look.
