I don't see a problem. I see a lot of post's waving red flags and shouting danger!, danger!, but Trump isn't advocating for the death of free speech, hate or otherwise, nor is he trying to take away anyone's right to the first amendment.
What he want's is for a greater accountability within the main stream media when they knowingly peddle lies and bullshit and who wouldn't want that. Sure he's saying this because he stands to benefit from any new laws but so what. We benefit too, from a press more apt to look over its shoulder if it knowingly reports supposed facts that it knows to be blatantly untrue.

And don't forget that Trump would be held liable to the same standards.

Why only the media? If you can sue a newspaper for writing a lie, why couldn't I sue you for a blog, a Facebook post, a tweet? I see people all day on Facebook share things that can be disproven with a 30 second Google search. Why should they be able to spread lies and not face serous financial penalties?

This is a big step toward eroding the first amendment. If papers make false claims then people will mistrust them even more than they currently do. Even more types of media will be then looked at and silenced. Someone posting something on sherdog the government or Microsoft doesn't like will be sued and you know they'll be able to find you, all it will take is a warrant to your phone and they'll hack into it and charge you with any lie you write. Being myopic and not looking down the line a bit is how these things happen. People lie, companies lie, and media lies, it's worth it for free speech.
